OP- I think it depends on the type of shower. If you are having a more traditional shower, and that's part of the festivities, then yes.
I've been to a few baby showers in NYC where they rented out rooms in nice restaurants and had couples there. So it's really more of a socializing event than having everyone sit around and open presents.
