I bought a Britax Roundabout 50 from Target on sale for $100 for my mom's house, intending to do the same thing. We only used it once since we found purchasing an airline seat for my DD and bringing her own car seat for the plane led to a much smoother flight. Trying to hold her for that first flight was no fun (and it was a less than 3 hour flight when she was 6 weeks old). Now that she is mobile, having her as a lap baby would be torture. She loves her car seat and always falls asleep on takeoff. Just something to consider if you will be flying in for visits.
