Constant grunting!

So DD is 2 weeks 3 days old and within the past week or so she has started grunting all the time. She used to do it when she was hungry but now it's before and after every feeding (even during the feeding too!). I understand some babies just like to grunt but I'm concerned for a couple reasons: 1) if she used to do it to indicate she is hungry and now she does it all the time, I'm worried we may overfeed her (I EP currently and we always look for other hunger cues and never force her t finish a bottle though if she's not hungry).

And 2) my bigger concern is she seems to have a lot of mucus. The grunting really sounds like she is trying to clear her throat. So I am constantly worried that she can't breathe. She's currently on Zantac for reflux, sleeps on an incline, is kept upright after feedings. And we use the aspirator thing if we see a lot of mucus.

Has anyone else dealt with this type of grunting? Am I worried over nothing? I feel like I worry over everything now as a FTM!

I could have written this myself. My guy is almost 8 weeks and the grunting hasn't stopped its almost gotten louder. He too does everything you say except he's on prilosec. I have brought this up to my pedi several times but she says its normal. If he would sleep better I would move him to his crib! I'm up all night wondering if he's really awake, really hungry, or just grunting.i have read sometimes babies with reflux are like this because they are trying to clear their throats.

This is my DS exactly. He's 3 weeks old today, but he was born 5 weeks premature (not sure if your DD was early). Our ped. said the grunting is a normal side effect of the reflux and unfortunately it will probably continue for awhile. I think for me the hardest thing is seeing him so upset and not being able to make it better.

This is my baby as well..she is 4 weeks and the grunting and other noises are out of control.  Sometimes I feel like she doesn't sleep very well because she grunts through the night.  So many people have told me she's noisy for a newborn lol

It's definitely due to reflux and the throat noises are from the acid coming up. My DS is the same but has a mild case and can generally sleep ok most of the night. Starting meds on Monday.
