Congrats and GL on TTC!
We started with a Moby wrap, which is really good/comfy for those newborn days. But it's kind of a PITA for going out and about. You have to tie it on you before you leave the house, othewise you're dragging the cloth on the parking lot ground. Also DH still doesn't know how to tie it. He just gets frustrated and asks me to do it for him. I've heard good things about the K'tan, but have never tried one. It's sized and already "pre-tied" for you. Both of these style wraps are really only comfortable for parents to use up to about 15 pounds. Then it's hard on your back.
We recently bought a Beco Gemini, and LOVE it. The hip issues you've heard about are the Bjorn and other carriers where baby dangles by it's crotch. The nicer carriers like the Ergo, Beco and Boba are designed so that baby has a "seat" in the carrier rather than dangling by the crotch. BTW the Beco Gemini is the only "good" carrier that allows baby to face out.
