Strep B Testing

Ok. I know im probably being annoying , but i had a question about how the procedure is for Strep B Testing. I've heard all sorts of different stories, and i just imagine the doctor shoving this over sized q-tip thing up my butt and vagina.

Can someone please explain the procedure and  tell me its not that bad?

It's a swab, not a shove.

Far less invasive than a pap smear, for instance.

It takes several seconds and then it is done.

I just did it last night. He doesn't even sit down. He stands on the side of me, Q-tip thingy swipe at the vag & another at the butt. 2 seconds total. NBD.

There is no entering.  He just swabs around the area and done.  Totally painfree.

I am SO emberrassed and not looking forward to the procedure.  I've been plagued with hemmoroids this pregnancy that have no symptoms really.....r just there! And am really dreading my Strep B testing tomorrow  EEK!

I would just look at this as practice. There are going to be a whole lot of people all up in your business in a few weeks, the GBS test is NBD in comparison.

My MW just said "and now I'm gonna do a quick swab" swiped the front, then, "and now the rectal part," followed by another quick swab. It was weird because I wasn't expecting it, but it was literally a one-Mississippi and done.

I had mine done this week & it was a quick cervical swab. I really didn't feel anything. This our 3rd child & I don't recall any of the GBS swabs being painful or even uncomfortable. Don't stress, it's quick & as PP said it's NBD compared to what's to come.

Uh no.  It was completely painless and I hardly even noticed.  Basically, my Doc ran it over my bits and bum and that was it!  No biggie.  I was not GBS + with my first two children, but I am GBS+ this time around.  Bummer.  No big deal.  But, kind of a bummer.  The swab is no big deal either!

This was how I felt too and I even asked to do it myself (midwife said no for some reason). I had visions of rolling over and spreading the cheeks, but that did not happen! Lying flat on your back, a little swipe in the VJ and a quick swipe between the cheeks. Anxiety for nothing.

Mine was yesterday and the cervical swab was quite painful -- I thought she had gone ahead and checked my cervix for dialation since I had heard that IS painful, but she had only swabbed.  The vaginal swab was definitely internal, but the backend swab was just on the outside and barely tickled.

Then she asked me if I wanted to have my cervix checked and that part wasn't as painful as the swab - just uncomfortable and a bit of pressure (she said LO is really low and I'm dialated 1cm).

Maybe I'm just extra sensitive or she did it wrong - sounds like it wasn't painful for anyone else!

Mine explained to me that she did "have to open the labia a bit" for the VJ part. It didn't go in the front more than a centemeter and was a wipe for the butt. :) Love talking about this stuff, fo sho. Zip it!

You must have had some other kind of swab done in addition to the GBS, which is external. Was she using a speculum? If not, she didn't swab your cervix.

A small brush, like for a pap smear -- except he will make a little circle right at the opening of your vagina and then literally like TOUCH the brush to the outside of your anus. Not a big deal at all.

Me too. And then they gave me a little cooler for my breast milk. Seemed like an okay trade. Lol.

My MW had me do it myself.  Instructions were to put the tip f the swab about 1.5 inches into my vagina and swab back along the perineum, but not into the anus.  Totally painless and took about 10 seconds to do. NBD.
