jen302:People keep pushing me to put cereal in my daughters bottle. She's 12 weeks old, sleeps well, eats well, and gains well. So why the hell are people pushing? I read that you shouldn't start til 4 months the absolute earliest.y pediatrician hadn't even mentioned cereal yet. Anyone else getting badgered? How are you handling it?
How annoying! Even when you do start giving cereal, you aren't supposed to give it in the bottle. It is about learning how to eat and learning about textures. Yup.. earliest is 4 months, although a lot of people choose to wait until 6 months. A lot of it depends on your baby too. I find it strange people ask and seem to care about what your baby is doing.. but I would just say that my pediatrician and the American Academy of Pediatrics says we are supposed to wait until at least 4 months. There are a lot of reasons not to start before 4 months: increased risk of allergies, some babies have a tough time digesting it, and there is an increased risk of childhood obesity. I am sure there are other reasons too...
