I think that if you'd asked me this like 5 years ago I'd say def. too trendy, but it's sort of fading enough to rev it back up in my opinion... I like it.

i have a nephew named asher so i love that name, but he gets called ashton on a regular basis. i sometimes call him that jokingly :) my college roommate was a girl named ashton and i went to high school with a few more girl ashtons, so i tend to think of it more as a feminine name- ashton kutcher aside ;)

It's all I have ever seen (aside from Ashton Kutcher). Personally, I don't like the name on any gender.

Yes, definitely boy. Ashton has ranked somewhere in the top 1,000 boy names every year since the SSA list started back in the 1880s. Ashton for girls had a brief stint in the top 1,000 from 1986 - 2005. (yes, I say brief because that is nothing compared to how long it has ranked as male name)

I actually like Ashton quite a bit, although I hate Ashton Kutcher. Hoping he fades into obscurity soon.

The girl Ashton trend was probably sparked by the really popular North and South miniseries from the 80s. Ashton was a spoiled southern belle in the series. They used to advertize the box set of the series ALL the time in the late 80s early 90s.

. Probably due to North and South which is funny because Ashton was pretty much a villain on that show. But oh so pretty.
