Intro and a couple questions!

Hi, I'm usually just a lurker, but decided to come out of the woodwork since we are officially TTC! DH and I have been married 1 1/2 years and are excited that we are TTC. This will be baby #1 for both of us! I went off BCP at the end of September. I started using OPKs this month, but haven't started temping yet. We thought we would kind of see what happens the first few months and go from there! My question is related to OPKs. On Tuesday I got a +OPK so of course we BD. Yesterday my OPK was negative (lighter). Today, I again got a +OPK. According to FF my FW is the 4th-7th, with O being on the 7th. And yes, I know, there is the possibility that I don't O but that is just assuming that I do. Why would I have gotten a +, - and then a + again? We BD the 4th, 5th, and am wondering if we should continue through the 7th or what? Also, is it recommended to BD ED or EOD during the FW? Thanks!

You probably geared up to O the first time but didn't actually ovulate. Now you're gearing up again.

ED or EOD are both fine, up to you. EOD is better if there are any issues with your partner's sperm.

Sometimes OPKs might look positive, but are not.  If you are not going to chart yet, I recommend investing in some digital OPKs to test your positives against.

As for ED or EOD.  Neither worked for me.  EOD is plenty though.  But don't feel like you have to stick to a schedule.  If you end up doing one or the other, or a mixture... it's fine.

Welcome.

This is why OPKs are not the best way to judge when you ovulated.  Usually you ovulate 12-48 hours after a + OPK, but you can have a + OPK and not ovulate.  I would continue to have sex until 3 or so days after your last + OPK.  As far as ED or EOD, it is up to you.  We usually shoot for ED (we have no issues with MFI), but some months only hit EOD.

You will typically ovulate after your last +OPK, so if you're getting another surge now you should keep having sex until you no longer get +OPK.  EOD should be fine.  Welcome and best of luck!

It's possible to get three days of positive OPKs (or in your case, get them over a span of three days).  My guess is, if you got a positive on Tuesday, a negative on Wednesday, and a positive today, that your urine could possibly been too diluted to test positive on Wednesday.  OPKs show the LH surge which is typically 12-36 hours before ovulation.  The fertility window is generally the three days before O, O, and the day after O.  Without temping you can't know exactly where you are in that process, but having sex everyother day is fine.  I would for several days after your last +OPK.

Best of luck!

I would think about starting to temp sooner. Just because, even if you don't really care what it says now, it will give you a better understanding of things when you do start really paying attention. I'm on my first cycle charting, third TTC, and really wish I'd been temping sooner so I'd have a better idea what's happening in my cycle. Whatever FF says about your fertile window is really just a guess, and not very meaningful, if you aren't temping.

Welcome, and good luck.

Thank you for all of your great responses! Yeah, I will probably start to temp sooner rather than later. Any ideas for people who rotate shifts. I work day/night shifts, but mostly nights. The time I get up on my days off varies, so when should I temp? Setting an alarm isn't really an option, either, since my schedule is messed up enough the way it is Confused
