Daycare WWYD?

To those that have LOs in daycare...we just started Jyles in a new daycare this week. On Tuesday he had an incident where is slipped off his chair during snack time. The worker said the chairs were slippery. He ended up with a bruise across his cheek and nose that showed up later that night. Yesterday he had another incident involving slipping off his chair and bumping his head. MH was angry and wanted to call the director last night. I calmed him and he agreed to talk to her at drop off. She wasn't aware of the first incident and said they usually put him against the leg of the table so he can't turn too fast and slip off. MH suggested using a booster or even a tiechair, because at home he's still in a high chair. About 2 hours ago I get a call from the director saying another incident happened. Same thing again. It was a different worker with him and she didn't put him against the table leg. The director ensured she would take it to the board and they would come up with a solution. MH is irate and left work right away to get him. He wants to pull him and put him back in the dayhome where he was, 40 mins from my work. I want to give the DC a chance to resolve the issue, but I'm obviously concerned. 3 incidents, all identical, in 3 days feels like a lot. This is a new DC that just started in September. I get that they have some kinks to work out. Thoughts? WWYD?

I'd be annoyed as well, but I would give them a chance to solve the problem.  However, anything less than a chair that restrains him in some way would be unacceptable to me.  He has proven that he can't sit in a regular chair yet, so they need to make an accommodation until he can.  GL

I would be upset also but give them a chance to fix it. But he needs to be in a chair that is his size and tied in. I know our daycare got new chairs when they added a 1 year old room that were close to the ground and have gripper type seat and arms. They worked perfect for my daughter. Now when she is in another room with bigger chairs the teacher is positioned between the younger students to assure saftey as the chairs are higher and they could fall off if they moved. It did take our DD a good 2 weeks to get used to sitting in a big kid chair

That seems excessive and I would be pretty upset that it happened more than once.  I guess I just assumed chairs with restraints were required at this age.  I would let them know that he either needs a chair with a restraint or a smaller table (like those little picnic tables- C eats fine at those).  If they can't accommodate, then I would move on.

I would be annoyed but I think they are trying to work on it.  DD sits in a regular kid sized chair at daycare and has no issues.  When she first started in that room they were extra careful to be near her until she got used to it.

I would show up with my own chair for him to use until they fixed it on their side. Sometimes it takes a while for them to get the budget released to order new materials. And I'd also get tough but fair about how it may not happen again. Basta.

I'm kind of disturbed that the director didnt know about the first incident. Any kind of "incident" in my daycare requires a form signed by a parent, teacher, and the director on the record.

After the first time it seems like they tried to fix it with the table leg, after the second time IMO they should have provided some kind of chair with a strap. DD's daycare has small chairs and I think they all have straps. Like Amber said, I assumed those were required!

Not gonna lie, I don't get how it happened to begin with.  Did they not ask you if he eats in a high chair at home?  That seems standard practice to ask where your child is used to eating...I would be absolutely irate and pull him ASAP.  It's a deal breaker for me - LO's safety isn't something I would compromise.  It shouldn't have happened once, let alone three times. Not to mention, it makes me wonder where else they are letting safety measures slip by the wayside.  I couldn't leave my LO there.

Our center has chairs and tables that are age appropriate. In the toddler room they are only about 6-12 inches from the ground.  DS would also have issues with adult chairs; he's still in a high chair at home.

I feel like 3 incidents, all exactly the same in 3 days is too much. I am all for giving people a chance, and I know my son has a lot of accidents at DC because he is a maniac. But this makes me think they are being negligent, and are not taking the precautions they should. 1 time- acceptable, 3 times in a few months- understandable, but 3 in 3 days=irresponsible imo!
