Flu shot?

Has anyone gotten the flu shot and confirmed all is fine afterwards (no MC)? How many weeks were you when you got the shot? I know I do want the vaccine but trying to decide now or wait until second Terri,Webster, but then taking my chances with the flu for the next month or so.

I got it just before I got pregnant with this one, but I got it during my previous two pregnancies and was just fine. It's recommended that all pregnant women get it.

As someone said before they actually tell pregnant women to get the flu shot. As long as you don't have an allergy to the actual vaccine or eggs you'll be fine. I got mine in our unit when I was only a couple weeks pregnant.

I lol'd at "second Terri Webster." Gotta love auto correct.

I got the shot at 15w with DD which was mid Sept., getting it next week this time. My OB prefers to wait until 12w, but if I wasn't going to be 12 until the middle of the season, I'd push to get it sooner. I think getting the shot to protect yourself is more important than waiting until second tri.

Ha! Somehow I didn't notice Terry Webster. That made me snort and hurt my throat.

I was wondering if there was a recommended window.

I think I'm going to stop by Walgreen's and get it during lunch tomorrow. I started working part-time bartending at a restaurant again, and I'm afraid of what will cross my path.

ETA: I meant to quote Skio.

I got the flu shot at 25 weeks...I'm now 35 weeks along..baby seems perfectly fine. The flu shot does not cause m/c. Neither will the pertussis shot....

i got it at 11w, just about out of 1st tri. IMO, the benefits outweigh the risks. Also, ask for a preservative free shot. the preservative contains mercury, a no-no for pregnant women.

I got my flu shot at 9w! After hearing the news about pregnant women getting the flu & autism, I didn't hesitate (I put a link below for you to read). In fact, it's healthy for your baby! If you get the shot while pregnant, the baby is vaccinated for 6 months after birth. If you are still nervous, talk to your doctor. Congrats & Merry Christmas! Smile

This.  I got mine at 7 weeks and everything still looks fine (last u/s was at 12w1d).  It's so much more dangerous to get the flu while pregnant.

Doctors still can't quite agree on the whole 1st/2nd trimester thing - mine wanted me to go in and get it ASAP, so I really wouldn't worry about it.

Our flu clinics close on the 15th of this month, so I got mine last weekend. I was just shy of 5 weeks. My doctor said that since I teach 400 49 year olds every week I was way more likely to get the flu than have complications from the shot...

I am so glad you posted this because I was hesitating to get my shot. Mostly for fear of the shot possibly causing autism which runs in my husbands side of the family.

I got the flu shot at 9 weeks.  I def needed to go ahead and do it!  I've known a lot of people in my area getting the flu in the last few weeks.  B/c I work at a college, I'm exposed constantly by my students.  Actually that's what prompted me to get it.  On Monday one of my students came to class sick with a fever.  It was a 2 hour class and he sat in the front row sneezing....and handed in a paper at the end of class covered in germs.  Of course he waited til the end of the 2 hours to mention the 103 fever he had!

For the record, no shot causes autism.

We really do not know exactly what causes Autism at this time .....they have found a group of genes but they do not know what environmental things trigger it in some children then in others. I will speak to my doctor I would rather be safe then sorry. My SIL has a very autistic son and I would not with that life on anyone.

I got mine at 5 weeks. However I did get strep at 9 weeks and the doctor was very concerned about my fever. High fevers can cause neural tube defects during the first trimester. Get your flu shot - it isn't a guarantee, but it can help reduce risks.

I had it done at 4 weeks and there are no side effects. It is recommended to get your shot while pregnant as it will also vaccinate the baby which is great, especially if you are expecting a winter baby as they need to be 6 or so month old before they can be vaccinated if you chose to skip it.
