Low platelet count anyone?

I had my blood work done along with my GTT test which I thankfully passed. But the doctor called me in today after my results came in and told me I had low platelet count (68). I'm pretty worried...I've read a lot about it today online and it doesn't seem positive. Anyone experience this too? I'm trying not to get worked up about it but when I read that it can be dangerous to my baby I tear up :(

Not me personally, but my MIL got results showing low platelets and it turned out to be her immune system fighting an infection that she hadn't even developed symptoms from yet. They went back to normal levels a few weeks after her infection went away.

I did have issues with low platelets but I was not pregnant, I was 14 years old.  I had mono and didn't know it, was still going to dance and cheerleading everyday, and it was a response to my body trying to fight that off.  At least that is what the specialists eventually determined as the cause, because they couldn't find another reason.  After about 5 months they just went back to normal and I never had another issue with them in my life.   I know they can be signs of some horrible things like Lupus and I know my parents were very scared at the time it was happening, but in the end it worked out.  Again, I do not know how that can effect a pregnancy.  What did your OBGYN recommend? Is their a hematologist other specialist you could go see?

I notoriously have a low platelet count during pregnancy and even not during pregnancy. They have no idea why.

I also have this, and too have been totally freaked out.  I did not have this problem with my last pregnancy.  From what I've been told, this happens to about 8% of pregnant women.  My midwife told me that for whatever reason this happens to some pregnant women and it should go back to normal after pregnancy.  Hopefully someone else has more information, there doesn't seem to be a ton of information online.

I had this with my first and again with this one. Basically they worry about bleeding during labor (not an issue with me during my first). The only other problem with it (for me) was my platlets were too low for an epi...so be prepared to go naturally!!! My OB warned me of this early on so I was able to prepare, i still asked for one during labor but they wouldn't give it to me.
