24 Hour Monitoring?

Hi ladies, I've pretty much been a lurker on these boards since I signed up and have learned a lot! But I have a question I was hoping some of you might be able to ease my mind a bit.

I just hit 37 weeks a few days ago and had my latest dr appt today. For the first time, they said my blood pressure was on the borderline higher than they would like. They checked both arms and again at the end of the visit and it stayed the same. So my dr is having me keep ALL my urine for 24 hrs and come back in tomorrow for more thorough fetal monitoring. He mentioned strapping on the monitor they would use in the hospital and keeping an eye on her longer than they normally do when just listening to the heartbeat as well as doing some bloodwork, I think (I was getting really anxious at this point and don't remember exactly what he said). He & the nurse kept saying there was no reason to be concerned, it was just precautionary, etc. But I couldn't help getting nervous at how quickly he said he wanted to monitor it more. It's probably just because I have been fortunate enough to have no real complications so far so this was all a little unexpected, but I was hoping some of you might have some experiences to share to reassure me or at least give me more of an idea what could happen?

This same thing happened to me last week at 33 weeks.  After a day of resting on my left hand side and drinking a ton of water, all turned out well. The urine catch is to monitor your protein and liver/kidney functions to ensure that pre-eclampsia is not setting in.  Think good thoughts.  It sounds like they are being cautious.  The worst thing that could happen is that they will decide it's time to induce you and at 37 weeks, your LO would be fine.  The High Risk board put me at ease on this.

They'll monitor you and your bp and baby. Basically since your so close to your dd they'd just induce you if it stays elevated but the anxiety won't help ya there! I was monitored in the hospital over night last week for high bp it went down enough they didn't induce me but when I went for a re check at my dr on Tuesday she recommended to induce me so we did and my little guy came at 309 am Wednesday morning. Perfect a healthy and ld went great. My bp is now normal also, so don't worry it's pretty common and you and lo will be great!

Like others have said, worse case is that they induce you and at 37 weeks, all should likely be well.  I was induced at 35w,4d with pre-e with DS1 and he did great.

What PPs said. It's good that you're already 37 weeks so worst case they will induce you or you might have to go on bed rest.

I'm on bed rest for high BP and protein in my urine and with bed rest I was able to get my protein numbers under pre-e levels. Those 24 collections are super annoying, but important. I hope things turn out ok! Thinking of you! GL!

Like the other people have said its probably just them being cautious. We went last Tuesday and I got sent straight to hospital for 24hr monitoring. They had us hooked up to contraction and heart rate monitor, took blood work, and checked my bp so often. I also had to do a 24hr urine. It came back borderline preclampsia. I got to go home the next day on bed rest. We went back this Tues to see doctor and got sent back to hospital for another night of monitoring because of protein in urine and bp was up. It's been kind of crazy the past two weeks but we are managing. My doctor said they are gonna try and get me to 38 weeks but if thats not possible, both the baby and I would be fine. I wish you the best of luck. And like others said if they do induce at 37 wks your LO will be fine.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Definitely made me feel a lot better going into today. They ended up taking some blood and also the contraction/heart rate moniter, but my BP was better today so they're just going to keep an eye on it for now.
