Post-ER Advice ~ Work Related

I'm trying to plan for my ER next week and would love some advice from you ladies about how much time I might need to take off. I'm sorry if this has been discussed to death on here, I'm not finding the answers when I search :/

I wait tables in a fine dining restaurant, so while I do work on my feet, it's not terribly fast paced and I could definitely have an "easier" section for the night. Im thinking that maybe I could take the day off for ER obv, but do you think I could work the next night? Were you up and about the day after your ER? I've got some pain meds if I need them and can follow lifting restrictions, but do you think I can deal with 6 hours on my feet? Would that be pushing it too much?

TIA!

If your ER is anything like mine was this week you could survive a shift the following night (36 hours later or so). I was uncomfortable but not in pain. I would just make sure to pop extra strength tylenol regularly for the first couple of days and have lots of gatorade with me. While it's not ideal it could be done.

ETA: while doable if you can I would take a break and relax.

*ticker warning*

I was just lurking and thought I'd chime in.  I didn't feel better until the day of my 5dt.  My ER was a Thursday, I called in sick on Friday, and then I had Saturday and Sunday off.  When I went into work on Monday, I felt pretty crappy, and I have a desk job.  BUT some people bounce back much more quickly, that was just my experience.

I didn't need the day off after my ER. I felt fine later the same night. I worked an eight hour day on my feet and did fine. I don't plan on taking anything but the day of my ER off for my next one.

I had my ER yesterday and I will NOT be working today.  Of course, my ER was not typical as my right ovary started bleeding.  RE said I would be very sore and bruised.  If I have any thing in my bladder or have gas, I am in immense pain.  Walking around like an old lady and peeing every 15 minutes right here!

Me: 28; DH: 35 1/2008 -- Started TTC
3/2009 -- FD discovered at 17 weeks
1/2011 -- Lap and HSG reveal Stage IV Endo and both tubes blocked.
4/2012 -- Consult with RE for IVF#1 -- All bloodwork and SA are normal -- Repeat HSG - SURPRISE! Both tubes are open.
May, June, August 2012 -- IUI#1-3 -- Letrozole + Bravelle + Ovidrel trigger = BFN
9/2012 -- Lap#2 to remove endo and Hysteroscopy

IVF#1 (Long Lupron) -- 12/6 ER - 20R 11F * 12/11 ET - Transferred 2 excellent blasts *
Beta #1 79.7 * Beta #2 240 * It's a GIRL!!

I was fine to work after the retrieval -- what got me was constipation 2-3 days later.  I'm not prone to constipation and have never had such abdominal pain from it before. So ... I highly recommend taking some Colace (and prunes or whatever good fiber source you like) and drinking lots of fluids starting the day you start your PIO to avoid that issue.  It can creep up on you and be worse than your soreness from retrieval!

Me: 39. DH: 41. TTC since 2009.
FSH: 9.5 at highest. AMH (11/2011): 0.9. AFC: 10ish. HSG: Normal. SA: Normal.
July 2011 - Feb. 2012: 2 Clomid/TI cycles; 3 injectables/IUI cycles. Good response but BFNs.
Dec. 2011: Laparoscopy (clear) + hysteroscopy to remove uterine polyp.

April 2012: IVF #1: FSH 9.2, AFC 7-8. Antagonist protocol.
Started stims (300iu Gonal-F, 150iu Menopur) 3/28.
Added ganirelix 4/1. Trigger 4/5 (7 follies). ER 4/7: 7R, 0M, 0F. :-(

Nov. 2012: IVF #2: Long Lupron protocol.
Started Lupron 10/27. AFC 10+. Started stims (300iu Follistim, 150iu Menopur) 11/8.
Trigger 11/18 (7 follies). ER 11/20: 9R, 1M, 1F. 3dt of my one 6-cell embie on 11/23: BFN.

Dec. 2012: Hail Mary IUI cycle with leftover IVF meds: BFN.

Feb. 2013: IVF #3: Estrogen priming protocol.
Pre-AF: estro patch + ganirelix. AFC 8-10. Started stims (450 Follistim, 150 Menopur) 1/28.
Added ganirelix 2/4. Combined Lupron/HCG trigger 2/10 (6-ish follies).
ET 2/12: 6R, 1M, 1F w/rescue ICSI. My embie didn't make it. :-(

July 2013: DE IVF #1

PAIF/SAIF/PA35 welcome.

yes, this! What in the world happens to make us constipated? Is it the anesthesia?

My first ER the recovery was pretty easy. The same day I was out with DH closing on our new house, came home to sleep a little bit but was up and grocery shopping the next day. This last ER was totally different though, I was not able to get off the couch the first day and still had residual pain up until my 3dt. Fortunately, my ER was a Friday and ET was Monday so I took Fri/Mon off and had the weekend in between to recooperate. Its hard to say how it'll be since everyone responds different...and apparently, at least with me, each time is different!! Hopefully you have a pain free ER and are able to get back to work (if thats what you want to do Stick out tongue)  Good luck!

My ER was in the afternoon (~3 pm), and I was fine going to work the next day (so only about 17 hrs later).  I have a desk job though.  With 36 hours, you could be fine with a good dose of Tylenol beforehand.  Good luck!
