SUPER ITCHY BELLY!!!! HELP!!!!!

So since day one I used the coco butter. (the butter that is thick) and then used some body butter by berts! EVERY DAY! as of a few weeks ago, I have tried making it a habit of using the butter twice a day. Rather in the past two days my belly has itched so so so much!!! I have broken skin a little! I cant help it! I thought It was hives because there were a few bumps. I tried benadryl but that did not help at all! What else to do!!! I dont know how much longer I can be sane!!

I don't have any real experience, but wonder if its a reaction from the cocoa butter since you recently started using it more.  I mean its thick and it coats well but doesn't really expose the skin to enough air, if that makes sense.   I would stop using it, clean it with a mild soap and water and maybe put a light lotion on and see what happens.  Also have you tried Benadryl cream on the bumps?  That might help.

ive also heard of PUPPS but have no experience with it.  It's worth researching.

If your belly is really itchy from stretching....DONT ITCH! Eeek.  I have itched and it can make massive stretch marks. I was using cocoa butter, but it did not relieve the itching, so I have switched to bio-oil. Instant relief! It's expensive but worth every penny!

Itching your belly doesn't cause stretch marks. They are tears of the dermis caused by rapidly stretching skin.

Well, itching doesn't help. Look it up!

My moisturizing remedy has gotten completely out of control (my problem is more on my thighs, hips, and back than my belly), but I've realized that my skin isn't dry, the itch is coming from underneath.  That leads me to believe that it is hormonal and that no amount of piling moisturizers on top of the skin will fix it.  I have started taking a half dose of benadryl every night and that seems to take the edge off a bit (if I take any more than that, I will not be able to function the next day).

Of course it doesn't. Itching irritates the skin, stretch marks or not. Seeing as stretch marks aren't on the top layer of skin, which is where you scratch, it won't make them worse either. It will only serve to cause more discomfort.

I would discontinue the new body butter, switch to something lighter. Sounds like it could be PUPPS - you may want to give your dr a call. I was told to use cortisone on it, and benadryl at night. They can give you something stronger if they're not working - PUPPS will drive you MAD!

I had this for a couple of insane days and then it went away.  I found rubbing, rather than scratching helped a little and kept me from wrecking my belly!  I used the lotion, too, more than usual.  Not sure why it came or went, but it drove me nuts!

You might want to turn down the heat of your shower a tiny bit, too.   And not wear wooly sweaters.  Maybe go to cotton for a little bit.

But I would ask your doc about Pupps.   Especially with any rashes or with itchy hands or feet.  And I would ask your doctor before trying any medication-  even Benadryl or cortisone cream...

Is it the Berts Bees Wax product that you're using? If so, you might be allergic to the bees wax in the lotion.  Try switching to another product like Palmers butter, or The Body Shop makes a phenominal cocoa body butter that I've been using.  You might also look into like a topical allergy cream like hydrocortizone-- just check with your OB first! This exact same thing happened to me when I used Berts body lotion with DD#1 and as it turns out, I'm allergic to bees wax, not just the sting.

Palmers makes an antiitch spray that you use right after you shower when your pores are still open. It was my saving grace.

I agree with PPs that it could be PUPPs. I think I have the same but haven't been in to my doctor about it yet. What has been working for me is Gold Bond Anti Itch Lotion. I usually apply 2 or 3 times a day. Good luck, I can relate it how maddening it is to be itchy all. the. time.

I second the Gold Bond lotion.  I don't know that I could live without the Healing formula with aloe.

I doubt it's the lotion, but that's just me.  My belly itches to an extreme level without any lotion on.  From what I hear it's a normal part of the end of pregnancy.

All of a sudden, I'm getting small patches of bumps and I'm feeling really itchy. My doc says it's hormones. I find some relief taking a bath with Epsom salts. I try not to itch so that the skin barrier doesn't break... it would suck to get an infection.

Ask your OB.  If it's that bad, maybe they can prescribe something.  In the meantime, I'd recommend an Aveeno oatmeal bath!
