Visiting from TTTC ::Looking for info on TTC/TTTC/IVF/IF after cancer::

Hi ladies, I hope you don't mind me popping over here from TTTC. I just felt this board was the better place to get some information.

My SIL was just diagnosed with Breast Cancer the other day. She is only 28yrs old. Her oncologist is hopeful that they have caught this in time and surgery will be scheduled before the holidays with chemo shortly after. When I was talking with her last night she expressed the want/need to have children in her life and the possibility of maybe freezing her eggs before she starts her chemotherapy.

Has anyone dealt with this type of situation before? I tried google but quickly remembered thats never a good thing and thought possibly there was someone else that has gone through this with first hand knowledge. Can anyone help?

Cancer has really hit my family hard these past few years. My MIL lost her battle a little over a year ago and now my SIL. My heart is just crushed and I just want to do what I can to help. I appreciate your time! TIA

I am sorry to hear about your SIL and hope that she has a swift recovery and is clear very soon.

http://www.fertilehope.org  is a LIVESTRONG initiative and I know there are other programs out there, however if she is undergoing surgery and treatment in a matter of weeks I'm not sure what her options are for egg banking as that process can take several months (diagnostics and the actual procedure) if it is the same process as IVF. Hopefully someone with first hand experience can expand on her options at this point. I can only give my perspective on the actual cycling and donor egg options. Much luck to you all.

I agree with pp about the livestrong site. They helped arrange everything for my husband. Her oncologist will also be able to provide information as they understand that families are important to many of their patients. I know it is a bit of a longer process for women but drs often work a lot faster for getting this situated before treatment as they don't want to risk health. Good luck to her
