New mommy question!

My beautiful daughter is just about a week old, and although I know it takes some time to get used to motherhood I can't help but freak out every time she goes to sleep!  I know they say, "sleep when the baby sleeps" but I can only do that when my husband is with her.  At night, when I try to put her in her co-sleeper, which is pulled right up to my bed, I just can't help but think she is going to stop breathing.  This is my biggest worry all the time, so I either stay up all night and watch her, or pull her into bed with me and let her sleep on my chest.  But then I end up falling asleep and I know her being in bed with me isn't safe either.  I mean, I am the lightest sleeper, so any movement or sound that she makes I wake right up to.  I just don't know what to do to ease my worry!  Any suggestions?!

I bought a Snuza, and that helped my peace of mind a lot.  I still worry and will stop to do a breathing check every time I see my LO sleeping peacefully, but I can fall asleep with him in the same room as long as he's got his Snuza attached to his diaper now.

You should invest in an Angelcare baby monitor or a Snuza monitor for the baby. Angelcare is a sensor they lay on that will alarm if it doesn't sense movement after a period of time, then it will alarm. Or the Snuza monitor is a portable one that gets clipped strait onto their diaper and a sensor touches the belly, it breathing isn't sensed from more than 10 second (i think) is will vibrate on the baby, if it doesn't sense breathing after that it will begin to alarm. Hope one of these can help you get so more sleep and piece of mind.

For me it just took time. I checked him obsessively the first two weeks, and now I relax a little more and check him much much less.

I have not used those monitors, but some people on here think the alarm goes off too much (false alarm) and made them more anxious.

Good luck and get some sleep!

My baby is not due until February, but I purchased a Snuza Hero.  Reviews are awesome and moms say it has saved their babies lives.  I will sending it to daycare with her too.
