breathing monitor?

Don't want to mention any by name, wondering if they're as "lifesaving" as I read in reviews, or if they're paying people to post those?
I can totally see myself losing sleep watching LO breathe....but would like to hear from "real moms" as to whether they found these worthwhile and if one is better than another.

i have an angelcare and i love it. it doesn't prevent SIDS but it would tell me if my kid stopped breathing. i appreciated the peace of mind and only had issues with 'false alarms' once, which was easily fixed by adjusting the sensitivity.

I actually just asked my Ob's np, and her opinion was not necessary, will only add to stress.

We loved our Angelcare Monitor for my daughter and have it saved for this one as well.  It gave me peace of mind when she was sick we could monitor her more closely and I just liked having the extra monitoring available to me.

I swear by our Angelcare Monitor, it gave me so much peace of mind with DS and once it started beeping and DS (about 4-5 weeks at the time) was in fact not breathing, I had to shake him a little for him to start breathing again

Useless to sya that I'm using it again with this LO and that I recommend it to all my pg friends

We just had a regular monitor with no fancy tricks -- the Graco Ultra Clear Analog Monitor -- and it has worked great for us. She's never had any breathing problems, so why should I get one with a breathing monitor? Perhaps if you had a child with a lung condition it would be useful, but otherwise I don't see the need.

Check out the snuza go. It is less expensive and the reviews are really good. I didn't use one for my first but I wish I had because I kept waking to check on her. I would have gotten more sleep and that would have been worth the money right there. I think I will be more easy going with the coming babe.

It might add stress for some people, but not all. It definitely relieved my stress!! I loved being able glance at it and KNOW he was still breathing!

I was given an Angelcare monitor from a friend.  While reading about them online, I found something that said they shouldn't be used with a foam mattress.  Does this mean you have to use a mattress with springs?  I'm new to this :-)

There was a poster on here a while back that was able to revive their DC when they stopped breathing because of snuza. I bought one but ended up never using it because dd slept in our room so long.

I thought it was useless and a waste of $$ when I was pregnant. Well after the 1st 2 weeks home and hardly sleeping when she would finally sleep I found myself up worrying while she was right next to me. But I am a worrier in general. I went on amazon and bought a Snuza because she was in a rock and play and it was not flat so the angel care would not have worked for us. Well I slept and felt like a new person. You do have to fold over the diaper to have it on correctly. We did have a few false alarms when we did not put it on properly but that showed me it works. I have heard great things bout the Angel care but that is more for crib use.

I used mine with a Sealy Soybean foam mattress and it worked fine. Just make sure you don't have an mobiles or anything attached or in the crib that would cause vibration and make the alarm think it was baby breathing. We have an AngelCare and it didn't cause me stress, it actually helped me sleep at night. We didn't have problems with false alarms until she was a year old and shoving herself into the corner of the crib where it couldn't detect her. My nanny kid had one and at five months old stopped breathing during naptime. Had I just had a regular monitor, I would have thought he was sleeping. But he had an AngelCare monitor and I heard the alarm going off on the other side of the house and was able to run upstairs and react in time.

I LOVE my Anglecare monitor with the sensor pad.  I do like to check on DS right before I go to bed and like that I can tell he's asleep and breathing without having to open the door and risk waking him up.  It's GREAT peace of mind.  I also love that it has a video monitor and you don't constantly hear loud, annoying static and can only hear it when there's something to hear.  It's pricey, but I'd highly recommend it, especially to FTMs!

I'm a really paranoid mom and I personally think they're a waste of money.  I can hear my kid breath fine and see him over my cheapo video monitor.

Ditto to this. And, my DS was sent home from the NICU on a hospital heart & breathing monitor and oxygen. As soon as I was given the clear from my Pedi, we ditched both of them & never felt the need for any other monitors.

I used a snuza go for ds1 and now for ds2. For me, it is one of the top baby items that ive ever purchased. I would not get any quality sleep without it. Highly recommend it!

I have an angel care and love it!  Yes, we do have false alarms from time to time but it's because LO moves to the edges of the crib.  Honestly there are times LO breathes so quietly I can't her him wit the monitor volume all the way up so having the sensor give me piece of mind.  And I'd rather deal with a bunch of false alarms than have the worst case scenario happen.

If we have a second I'm going to get the one with two sensor pads to help with the false alarms.

I also have the angelcare and I love it. We have had a couple of false alarms which were fixed by changing the sensitivity. I recommend it.

Thanks all. DH is pretty convinced we need this, so maybe I won't try to talk him out of it.
