I'm getting fat!

I am having the hardest time with this right now, and just needed to vent for a minute... and see if any moms are having the same troubles!

I have always battled my weight, always.  Anyone who knows me will say I have always been a roly poly chub. In February of this year, I started a diet, and have lost 80 pounds.  I feel amazing, I look incredible, and am happier than I've ever been.  2 weeks ago, I found out I was pregnant, which was also right about the time that I was only 5 pounds away from my goal weight.  I've now gone off the diet, but am still eating healthy.

Problem is, I'm having the hardest time switching my brain from, "Let's lose this weight!" to "It's okay, and even necessary, to gain some weight for this baby!"  I can't help but feel like I'm just getting fat again, after all this hard work!

Any other moms experience this feeling, and have some anxiety around gaining weight?

I lost a significant amount of weight before both pregnancies.

Something I did was track my eating- I used MFP and kept it at "maintain" weight, then added extra calories as I entered 2nd Tri. I kept me on track to eat enough each day.

I can somewhat relate. I lost 30 lbs since March, and reached my goal weight at the end of August. I hadn't quite figured out the weight maintenance bit when I got pregnant, so I sometimes waiver between eating EVERYTHING and reigning it in and being more cognizant of what I put in my mouth. I continue to exercise 5x per week to balance everything out, and I think that it helps me mentally. I'm not paying attention to the scale as much as how my body feels.

Are you exercising at all?

I was journaling what I ate before I got pregnant. I use Lose It. It is a really cool app. I was trying to lose around 10 lbs. Now I am not being crazy about it, but still recording what I eat so I am conscious of it. I find that is the most helpful! You can even enter in how much you want to gain or if you just want to maintain, so it would be safe for pregnancy I would think.

Yes.  I had surgery in 2009 and lost 170lbs.  I was actually losing during my pregnancy with DD so this pregnancy is different for me.  I'm nervous about seeing the scale climb, even though I know it is for the health of my baby.  I just keep telling myself to eat healthy and I can lose weight after the baby is born.

Thank you for all your messages! I'm glad I'm not the only one going through this! I have downloaded a few apps to start tracking what I eat, which I think will help a lot. I don't exercise much right now - but need to start! I have that pesky gym membership that I pay for every month!!

Im sort of on the same page. I also struggle with my weight, and I know im not supposed to gain more than 15lbs (whole pregnancy) Has anyone come across any similar apps for healthy pregnancy nutrition? That way you could feel like your still "tracking" and doing things healthy but without "dieting"

Hi there - I completely understand where you're coming from.  I've always struggled with my weight and watching the numbers tick upwards on the scale has been very hard for me.  I've gained a healthy, and minimal, amount of weight-to-date but I am still hearing that little voice in the back of my head, "Don't get fat. Don't get fat."

Goodluck!

9 months after DD was born, I went on WW and lost 60 lbs in a year.  I have gained about 15 back since then, but still weigh 30 lbs less today than my first OB appt with DD.  I am pretty freaked out about gaining a ton and will try my best to eat healthy.

I can understand your anxiety about the weight gain but pregnancy is not about us as much as its about the baby. There has to be a mind shift about what things you like to what things are good for the baby. Its a mental adjustment and I constantly reminded myself about that when I first got pregnant and now its becoming a habit.

Besides if you aren't eating junk food all the time it wont be very easy to gain significant weight from healthy food. You will gain some but only the amount that is needed for a good pregnancy not a whole lot beyond that. So stick to focusing/obsessing about eating healthy always/most times and not about weight gain.

Good Luck !

Aw, I feel your frustration. I lost 60 lbs in 4 months and now I'm a tad concerned. I don't want to gain it all back! I'm not dieting anymore either but notice I'm still dropping here and there. Mostly cuz I'm not hungry and feel nauseated. I hope you're able to not obsess over it and find that healthy balance between pregnancy and still eating & living healthy! I'm under the mind set that just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean I have to gain a bunch of weight. Going to try to keep the weight gain to a healthy amount.

Me - 32, DH - 32. We have been TTC #2 since January 2012.

You are not alone. I lost 30 lbs this year. I go as close as 2lbs from my goal weight before I got my BFP. It will take some getting used to, but I know the scale has to go up now.

I still weigh every day because I will try my best to only gain what is suggested (or out of my control). This will not be a free-for-all nine months for me.
