First Prenatal Appointment

I was just curious as to what all they do. My first appointment is December 10th at 9:30am...and on the phone, she said that I would just be seeing a nurse, not the doctor himself, and it would be an interview of some sort. I was wondering what all they ask you, if they do anything to hear a heartbeat, all that good stuff? Thanks :)   I am so excited!

It doesn't sound like they mentioned an ultrasound so no, you won't likely hear the HB because they don't usually try the doppler until around 12 weeks.  They'll ask you about your lifestyle habits (drinking, smoking, etc).  Medications you've been on, surgeries you may have had and they'll ask you about genetic conditions on your and your husband's side of the family (chromosomal disorders, cancers, etc.)  So you should ask your husband about this if he's not going with you.

Yep, as the PP said it's going to be a whole lot of questions about your lifestyle/habits, health history, medications, symptoms you've been having, etc. I was given a lot of printed information as well as a lot of verbal education on do's and don'ts during pregnancy. I was also given a chance to ask any questions I had. You will most likely not even listen for the heartbeat, unless you are at least 12 weeks along. After my appointment, I went to the lab for blood and urine samples.

Don't they take like 7 vials of blood? That seems like the only bad part about this whole thing haha
And thank you so much everyone! This helps me a lot. I was stressing over everything that was going to be done. Big Smile

Will they at least inform me of how far along I am? Because when I found out I was pregnant, I went to the ER because I was puking so bad and couldn't keep anything down. But they never told me how far along. That's really all I want to know..ya know?

They can't know how far you are without an ultrasound.  They'll use their little wheel and tell you how far they THINK you are based on a text book 28 day cycle.  And yes, if they do lab work that day they'll take lots of blood but it doesn't really take that long.
