Inspired by Austen's post below...WDYT of Desiree?

I have always been a big fan of Lucille Ball and thought it would always been neat to incorporate that into using a name inspired by her or I Love Lucy for one of my children's names.  However, before I really thought it out I named my kitty Lucy. I have thought of still using Lucille as a MN, but that's the only thing I have really considered at this point that DH would also be on board with.  I dislike Ethel and DH nixed Vivian (the FN of the actress that played Ethel).  Lucille Ball's MN is Desiree and I never thought of it before until recently.

So WDYT of Desiree?  I like the sound, but I'm concerned it comes off as a little "red light district" or a little "sexy" sounding if that makes any sense.

I think Desiree is a nice name. It's uncommon, but not too uncommon. I don't think it's too 'red light' at all. I think it's great.

I really like Desiree, I knew one in high school that was so pretty and nice so I have a very positive impression.  I don't think it comes off as "red light", I think it's a sweet name.

I don't mind Desiree-- but I understand your concerns.  I do adore the NN Desi.

I don't think it's a big deal, TBH-- could you re- name your cat?

I like Diane, but doubt DH will.  I have already suggested Diana and he nixed that right away.  I also suggested Gloria, the name of her character "The Big Street", which was her favorite movie she was in.  DH, again said no. 

Unfortunately I did bring up still using Lucy or Lucille as a FN and DH again said no (big surprise there).  He said even if I didn't name my cat Lucy, he still didn't like it as a first name. Boo.

I don't like Desiree.  It does sound a little "red light district" now that you mention it :)  I would use Lucille as a MN or even first name.  Just because your kitty is Lucy, I don't think it matters.  My doggy's name is Gracie and if I ever have a DD2, her name will be Grace.

I think the name is just ok. I don't hate it. I've known 2. One was Desiree and one was Desiray. Both pretty good people. I did call one of them Desi. It worked :)

I'm surprised Desiree was Lucille Ball's MN, I associate the name with the 80's or 90's. Either way, I still don't like the name and think Lucille and Vivian are much more beautiful.

That said, I seem to be in the minority of this thread, so if you love it, you're probably ok going with it.

I love the name Desiree. I went to highschool with a Desiree (nn Desi) who was the sweetest girl on earth! I don't think of a stripper/red light district when I hear it, I think of the amazingly friendly, and athletic girl I grew up with!
