Hoping to avoid induction... thoughts?

So, I am now almost 39 weeks based on our dating u/s WAY back at week 14. BUT, we had a dating u/s because this little one was a surprise, and I only had two irregular cycles after my last child was born (30 days and then like 44 days when we got our BFP).  So, we had a dating u/s, which gave us a due date of Dec 16.  However, based on last period our due date would be Dec 23.

So, my potential issue is that if I do make it to the Dec 23 date I will technically be overdue and my Doc would want to induce.  But, what if that Dec 23 is really the best date of the two and I am not technically overdue.  I talked to my Doc and she said we'd wait and see.   No real answer.  I tend to feel they would stick with the date given from the dating u/s.  I want to avoid induction for sure.  No real answer to this I guess.  Anyone else with "two" possible due dates?

If you weren't charting then an early dating U/S is the best predictor of EDD.  With that said, there's no reason to induce just because you pass your EDD.  That's not a medical necessity as normal human gestation ranges from 38 to 42 weeks.  Now, if you hit 42 weeks (based on EDD per early U/S) and still haven't had baby and your doctor really wants to induce at that point then maybe you need to weigh whether your EDD was right on or if you want to give it a few more days before taking any action.

Yes  Yup.  Don't let your doc pressure you into inducing before about 42 weeks.  Induction really should not be necessary if you have no health issues; your baby will not stay inside forever!

My due date was changed 4 times. When I first found out I was pregnant my due date was dec 11 then at 18 wks they changed it to dec 17 then for my appt at 28 wks they went back to the 11th and now at my 37 wk appt it's dec 17!! Ugh! I want to stick with my original due date the 11th because it was my original, but my OB is saying they changed it based on babies growth and i possibly ovulated late. Very confusing. :[

Yes, based on the dating u/s at 7 weeks, I'm due 1/17, but my OB had it based on LMP so 1/12 which is nonsense since I KNOW that I didn't ovulate that early. I changed to a CNM and she put it was 1/14 and I'm not sure why. 1/17 makes the most sense to me and that's what the early dating u/s said. I'm my mind it's 1/17.

I'm obviously lurking here, but I'll tell you what my OB said.

Based on my LMP, my due date would have been 4/16.  Based on my early dating ultrasound, my due date is 4/30.  At my last appointment, without me even asking, she said, "So your due date is based on that dating ultrasound, and since you had that, it WILL NOT change, no matter what."

At least she didn't tell you, no way, we're inducing you... so maybe that's a good sign?  :)

It may be your ob just wants to set a date on your edd. I went to my 40 wk appt and they set an induction 12 days later. They just wanted it on the books. I ended up going on my own that night on my edd.

I had my first (and so far, only) u/s at 20-ish weeks. And my cycle had been extremely irregular before that. So, while my doctor tells me I'm measuring fine, my due date could potentially be way off. I'm not close enough to worry about induction, but it's something I have sitting in the back of my mind.

I'd definitely try to pin my doctor down for a firm answer, "Yes, we'll induce if you go past [this date]."  The elusive "wait and see" stuff is annoying. It's kind of important, since you obviously will probably want to try at-home, natural induction methods first. I've heard awful things about pitocin :/
