Sofia Bella...too much?

First, if you hate top 10, 50, 100 names I think I already know how you'll poll...

Our last name is clearly Italian.  Our DS is Luca Francesco.

Although I had hoped to stay out of the top 100 names, we're finding ourselves pulled to Sofia.  We haven't declared it the winner just yet, but in the meantime looking for a short 1-2 syllable Italian or "Italian sounding" middle name.

There aren't many out there and two very close friends just used Etta and Gia.

Question:  does it sound like a Disney Character or Storybook Character  or Do you have any other middle name ideas that might work?

A big TIA!

Yeah, it is ultra girlie and I'm sooooo not girlie!  Too funny.

Exactly. We like Lucia, but...well, Luca....

I would prefer Sofia Isabella over just Bella. I like a longer MN with a shorter FN. I like Sofia Daniella

Perhaps use just Belle? It's the double A ending that is so frilly, especially if you have a very Italian last name. My last name is very Italian and I find a lot of names sound sing-songy and I think Sofia Bella would be in that category.

I do think it's a bit too much.  If you like Italian girls names and want something less common, what about:

Giada

Elisa

Amalia

Aurora

Bianca

Chiara

Lia

Angelina

Francesca

Elena

Philomena

Gabriella

Good luck!

I don't mind the name, but I don't think it flows with them both ending in 'a'.  I would go with a PP suggestion of Sophia Isabella or Sophia Belle.

This!  I don't love the double -a endings, but I much prefer Sofia Isabella over Sofia Bella.

Agree! While Bella is very pretty, the double 'a' sounds too sing-songy...love the suggestion of Sofia Belle! Just that simple change is great!

I like it but it is over the top girly so I could see how some people might not. I think if you are going with purely Italian names you are going to have a hard time avoiding the double a endings.

I like it, and it definitely sounds Italian to me. I just read an article that said even though Sophia is the #1 name, only 20,000ish babies were given that name last year. So I wouldn't discount it because of popularity (Plus the Italian spelling Sofia makes it a bit more unique). It sounds like a beautiful girl's name to me!

I like it just a little too popular. I am not sure where in the country you live but if your in ny nj area it's super common among Italians. I like Isabella or Gabriella though but they're also super popular.

Interesting - I asked a similar question about using the name Giovanna as a middle name with a first name ending in an A, and most of the responses said that it was fine and you don't often use the first and middle names together anyway.

So that's my response to you - I think it works!

My niece is Sofia Valentina. More Hispanic ( which they are) than Italian, but beautiful, I think anyway.

I also liked the suggestion of Giovanna.

Great input, thanks!

Difficult to find Italian girls' names that don't end in -a...  That's just the way the language is.  Not to mention the Italian language has a sing song quality to it to begin with.

Going to mull it over, but know we'll keep looking.

Do you still know the link to that article?  I tried searching for it in various forms but it didn't turn up.  Found an forum post that asked how many people actually knew young Sophia's.  Several teachers weighed in an some said none, some said one.  My friend has a 5 year old Sophia and there are none in her class and the name has been in the top 50 for a while.
