Should I tell my friend???

My friend is having a baby and I want to do her a wreath for her hospital door and/ or for her house. My question is should I tell her what I want to do for her before the shower gets close so I can get ideas from her or would it be okay to keep it a surprise. I am kinda afraid she may buy one online and then me doing one may be pointless. I need Help.

Do it and just give it to her early.  Don't wait for the shower.

Are you talking about a wreath to put on the day of the shower? Or something else? My hospital stressed multiple times to us that NOTHING should be advertising a new baby outside your home - there are too many creepy people who want to steal babies, and plus, even if they don't, it alerts strangers to the fact that you are probably over tired, which makes you more vulnerable to thefts, etc...

A wreath for somewhere in her house would be fine, she could hang it up in the nursery possibly. I agree with PP I probably wouldn't hang it up outside. Also, my hospital won't allow you to hang things outside you door, it's for security reasons

She would not put it outside, but she would hang it over the mantle. The hospital here does let you put wreaths up on your door, but the hospital baby floor is locked and you only can get in if you know certain things about the patient and a number they give you to give to your friends. Plus I only put the first initial on the wreath. Not the whole name. Do you guys think I should wait till the shower, before the shower, or at least tell her my idea?

Well how many weeks along will she be at the shower? I don't think it matters when you give it to her but I wouldn't tell her if I were you. I like the element of surprise. It sounds like a very thoughtful gift.

Is this a thing in your area?  Cause I never would've think of ordering a wreath, so I think you're safe.  I'd tell her if you're that worried about it.

What kind of wreath is it?  I've only seen diaper wreaths and they have been for the shower...sometimes given as a gift.  Is this the kind of wreath you mean?  We aren't allowed to put much on the doors of our hospital room... only in there a couple of days anyway.  I have seen small notes from children...but other than that nothing.  Do the people in your area do wreaths...where she would actually purchase one herself.  If that is the case then I'd let her know you aer making one.

Should you also not allow your child to have toys in the front yard or hang baby curtains in the windows?  It is not like you ever leave a newborn home alone--are you really afraid of a home evasion where someone steals your baby?  This seems rather paranoid to me.

When I got home one of my neighbors had balloons tied to our door and another had mowed our lawn for us.  Several other neighbors saw the balloons and brought us baked goods during the week.

I love the idea - I saw several wreaths on hospital room doors on our tour.  I'd keep it a surprise - it's not too personal and more than likely she hasn't thought of it.  It'll be a great present to open at the shower.

No I personally don't but some of the moms on here were worried about it and were advice not to so I had to clearify. I have the one I made for my own son in our living room, but that does not mean I would not mind hanging it on the door just dont have the hook to do it.  Smile

It's a wicker wreath that has little girl hair bows all the way around it with a C in the middle of the wreath for the baby's name. There are a lot of people that seem to do it here. At least when I had my baby three months ago there was.
