Visited friend's newborn and a little freaked out...

I am usually such a baby person. I want to hold them and not give them back ever! I nannied tons of babies through high school and college and I just love them.

However, last night I visited my friend and her brand new baby in the hospital.. and I don't know what happened. I held her once and I was happy to give her back and didn't want to hold her again. I think being in the hospital and so close to my birth kind of freaked me out. I hope I get over it before my baby is born! I am going to have to hold him/her! Anyone else have this happen?

This week DH and I went on a tour of the maternity area of our hospital. I almost passed out when the nurse took us by the L&D rooms. So even though I didn't see/hold any newborns, I had the same anxiety being around the hospital and having everything hit me about how close it is!

This EXACT thing happened to me this week! One of my friends had a baby on Sunday...I went to visit on Tuesday and the baby was in the bassinet thing and when she told me I could hold her I just kinda froze! I was perfectly happy to just ooh and aah over her cute little face and not pick her up.

You'll be ok, I promise. Hormones do a lot of crazy things to you, especially at the end. You will want to hold your baby, don't worry.

FWIW, I have never been one to want to hold anyone else's child... I do want to hold my own as much as she will let me. Smile

I used to love other people's kids, too.  I've worked with kids ever since I was old enough to baby-sit.  Everywhere I went I'd have kids in tow.  Now that I have my own, I have no real desire to even hold other people's kids.  In my head I'm thinking "Where are your parents?  Go find them."   It's like having my own kids has completely filled that need I had.

When they put that baby in your arms you are going to melt.  No worries.

I'm a STM and I have no interest in other people's babies right now. I love my toddler, I'm sure I'll love my baby but I am enjoying my last few months with my hands free! I see babies and think, "Oh, look, a baby. I'll have one of those soon." and that's it. I never offer to hold them and I don't coo and or fawn over them. Being pregnant makes me much less interested in babies!

You'll be so in love with your child that you won't ever want to put him or her down...I promise. Sometimes the first few days are a little tough and overwhelming, but don't worry.

It's so funny you posted this because my sister and I were talking about this just yesterday! She thinks that its something that nature has engrained in us to just not be interested in other people kids towards the end of being pregnant. My niece who is 9 months (who I was ABSOLUTELY obsessed with) I want absolutely nothing to do with. They tried to pay me to watch her the other day and I still said NO! And I usually do it for free! Ha really weird..

I'm usually that way too, lately I look at them and touch them and have zero desire to hold them. I think it's a pregnancy thing.

I was never especially interested in babies until I had my own. I thought kids weren't really fun until they started to talk. You will be fine!!

This is kind of similar;

I have been baby crazy for the last two and a half years. The weekend before July 4th this past year, we went to visit DH's grandfather for his birthday and I was talking to one of his cousins. I actually said, "Yeah, I'm glad we decided to wait a little longer because I'm not so sure I'm ready to be a mom."

That night when we got home, I took a positive pregnancy test. It has to be some sort of hormonal chain reaction.

So glad it's not just me! It must be a hormonal thing. Usually I am baby crazy but a friend brought her 2 month old to my shower and I was so not interested. She kept making me hold him too (for "practice" according to her), and all I wanted to do was give him back. Plus it was kind of uncomfortable because my belly was in the way and I had to hold him above it, which made my arms tired. I tried to avoid her the whole time!
