migraines and pregnancy

anyone else have migraines? this is going to be a rough patch for me since i cant take either of the 2 meds i have been on for quite some time...i get about 6-8 a month...which is a lot...prior to BFP i was on meds to keep me from getting them and it was pretty effective...ive been off it since about 3 weeks TTC and the migraines are back full force with a purpose it seems...

I get them. I gave been taking Tylenol and an RX called fioricet which I took my last pregnancy as well. It makes me sleepy so I can't take it during the day, but if I have one at night it helps me fall asleep. I also try to drink a small amount of caffeine when I have one. Last pregnancy, mine greatly improved after 18 weeks hoping the same holds true this time!

My migraines usually pick up in the first tri due to the extra hormones, I found once the placenta took over, so about 10 weeks, they will ease off. I still took my Advil. I know it isn't recommended during pregnancy, but from everything I have looked at, it looks like it really only potentially impacts implantation and then the process of closing off the baby's circulatory system closer to birth, so I felt safe taking one extra strength advil (liquigel) when my aura starts. Without that advil at that time I would be down for at least 24-48 hours, 1-2/week and I can't afford that with my job or my family.

I take fioricet as well but i was told i couldnt take that when I got pregnant...i was on topamax 100 mg daily and then fioricet at the onset of migraines both I was told I couldnt take...the fioricet because it has a sedative in it.

Just reading up on it looks like it may be ok to take but i swear my flight surgeon told me that was a no no...tylenol is candy to my migraines so if i can indeed take it then this would be a lifesaver, ill make sure to ask my OB at my first visit!!

I was on Topomax and Relpax 40mg both of which I'm not allowed. Dr prescribed Enderol. Haven't needed to fill it yet. Ice packs help a lot

I never dont have one. every min, every day. I dont bother with pain killers since its all candy to me. I have found that a bath instead of a shower is a great help, also coffee does great. My doc put me on inderal and it's nice but most, we have to manage due to the hormones.

Regular coke, Tylenol, ice pack on your neck... It's a tough road but those helped me quite a bit with DD.  Luckily I only had 2 the entire pregnancy because hormones are so wonky throughout and sometimes make them go away.  Good luck!

My OB said only take my Fiorcet if the pros outweighed the cons.. but she did not recommend it unless I was desperate.

My OBGYN said that in the first tri they'll break it with an IV if its bad enough, that any kind of drug that will help is too strong.

Ive also been seeing a migraine specialist for 8 months because they were so bad and he said Fioricet is the worst thing you can take for migraines because its in your system for 24 hours and it usually takes more than one. Then you're over medicating and getting rebound headaches.

Obviously can't take topamax or relpax so I've just been surviving on Tylenol and sleep for now.

The first 8 weeks I was fine, but they have been full force for the past 3 weeks.  I was on Nortriptyline for daily management before but now I've been told only Tylenol if I get one.  They don't seem to do much to help....it really sucks.  Coffee helps a little.  Hot showers.  That's about all I've got....

A lot of docs don't like them but they tried Imitrex, Zomig, Maxalt and Cambia and none of them work, I do have to take 2 Fioricet 1 usually doesn't work but within a couple of hours the side effects are usually gone. I have not noticed rebound headaches though, it could have something to do with the fact that I don't drink much caffeine at all. But my script does say 1 to 2 so tech I guess it is not over medicating. So far Fioricet was the only thing that worked and I was tired of being a guinea pig waiting to get a migraine so I could try a new med. The Topamax is a dream at preventing them altogether but that med causes birth defects esp in males and is def a no no.

I've had them since early in my first tri and still have them now. Tylenol with caffeine at the onset takes the edge off. But I have had a few that were horrible horrible agony.

Yes!  I used to get one a month and the last few weeks I have had several.  I take two tylenol and a little caffeine.  I also see the chiropractor.

My migraines are triggered by hormone fluctuations. After getting pregnant with my first, i didn't get a migraine until after giving birth. Then, since i BF'd, i didn't get a period until i stopped pumping at 9months and then i started up with migraines again. Hoping to be able to BF for longer this time and save myself the aggravation.

I'm 8 weeks 5 days and have been hospitalised twice for migraines. I've always had sever migraines with vision loss, numbness and weakness on my left side for 12 years but now I can't speak and can't find my words. I didn't know who my coworkers were or what my dog's name is. SCARY!

WARNING - DO NOT LET THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT GIVE YOU ATIVAN!  They thought I was having a stroke and I told them I wasn't. I told them NO ativan and they pushed it anyway...Ativan causes major birth defects. Have to go for a 2d scan on the 31st of December now.

The skinny of florcette - you can only take it twice a week or it will cause rebound headaches.

To be truthful, many OB know nothing of migraines, have your neuro work with your OB.

I used to be on Topomax as a preventative and Zomig for treatment.  Since TTC, I weaned off of Topomax, and my doctor recommended I try Riboflavin or Magnesium supplements to help as a preventative.  I did my research and tried Riboflavin.

Before Topomax I had 8-12 migraines per month, after I had about 1 per month.  Since weaning off of Topomax and starting Riboflavin, I'm maintaining my 1 migraine per month.

The only thing that sucks since getting PG is not being able to treat the migraine, I just let it run its course.

I also started seeing a chiropractor and found that my neck issues cause some migraines.  I switched to a neck pillow and stopped sleeping on my stomach.  This helped as well, sometimes you just have to try random things and figure out what works FOR YOU.

 Good luck!

I was sooo sick with one yesterday I wanted to go to the ER. The only reason I didnt was because I would have to actually get there! I was nauseas because I'm pregnant, I was nauseas because of the migraine and I was nauseas because I was sucking snot from my sinuses being messed up! Finally I drank milk with instant Espresso to up the caffeine. My husband took me out to walk a bit at 10pm in the cold. Then I just completely lost it :( But I felt better.
