Shower, Sprinkle---now "drip"??!?

Come on now, NYT, a 40 person catered party is not modest  nor low-key

"Melissa Gerstein, 40, a mother of three living on the Upper West Side and a founder of the Moms, a multimedia company focused on child-raising, said that despite hinting to friends and family that she would be up for a shower when she was pregnant with her second child, a party never came to fruition.

“I was disappointed,” she said. “I think every birth should be celebrated. You wouldn’t give your first child a bar or bat mitzvah and not your second or third, so why is a shower any different?”"

Because a religious rite of passage is TOTES the same as an event focused on giving presents.

Yes, he's mine. Yes, he's aware I'm a horrible mother. Yes, I plan on teaching him to act just like me.
No, CPS hasn't come to rescue him yet.
Yes, I'll make sure to let him know how sorry you feel for him.

This was another favorite part:
"Some sprinkles, however, are more lavish than the average shower. Amee Bhatia, 35, a physical therapist living in Millstone Township, N.J., with a 20-month-old daughter, had a sprinkle in November to welcome her second child, who is due in January. Ms. Bhatia described her first shower as a grand affair of more than 100 people that culminated with her cutting a three-tiered crystal-encrusted cake. The second had half the number of guests, invited by Evite rather than a printed card, and a one-layer cake. "

1) 2u2 and hitting friends and family up for more loot

2) MORE THAN 100-effin-people and a three tiered crystal-encrusted cake?  Well, damn, a party with *just* 50 people, evites-invitations and a one layer cake---she was really slummin' it.  I bet she registered at Walmart too.

My favorite part was the 120 people at her shower, compared to only 40 at the sprinkle... Dang. I didn't invite 40 to my shower.

Wow. I wonder what her family's response was to being called out in a major newspaper for not giving in to klassy hinting about wanting a second shower. Hopefully someone smacked her upside the head with the paper.

"You wouldn’t give your first child a bar or bat mitzvah and not your second or third, so why is a shower any different?”"

Here's why. Because a shower isn't a celebration of the baby's birth -- it helps a woman becoming a mother by helping her with some essentials and celebrates that rite of passage. I suspect that when showers first became popular, mothers received gender neutral clothing and essentials like diapers that they would use for all subsequent children. I don't know, the entitlement is strong with that one. How greedy.

And now I know where so many children get their feeling of entitlement from Indifferent

Wow, just wow.  Why do these women feel so freaking entitled?  Yes, every baby should be celebrated but that's what "meet the baby" parties are for.

Wow. Just wow.

Why do people feel the need to celebrate their continued ability to procreate? We get it, you can make babIES, not just the first one. Woohoo - but I'm not gonna throw you a party, literally OR figuratively.

“The first one was 120 people, the second was half that number, and this one was 40 girls,” she said. Although it was a tea at the elite Willard hotel in Washington, the event was completed in two hours compared with more than four hours for the first two, and cupcakes and mini-desserts replaced an extravagant sheet cake with intricate hand decorations of baby bottles and strollers.

4 hours, really?? i'd kill myself.
