Renting a party room in a restaurant???

Is that normal??? We have family spread out ALL over the Arizona valley, and to be honest where we live is VERY small and dirty (I live with 3 grown males who won't help clean for their lives), and I DO NOT want guests here (esp since fiance's family hasn't been here yet). Plus, there are some VERY heated feuds going on with certain family members of the house we WERE going to have it at.

 

SO, I figured to solve all the drama lol we'd have it in a public place, big enough and clean enough to hold everyone. Is this weird???

 

BTW, do party rooms require you to buy food from wherever you're renting...or can you bring in cake, cupcakes, cookies or whatever???

Most restaurants, yes, require the purchase of food to be from them.  If they sell it, they expect you to buy it from them.  The usual exception is cake because most restaurants do not bake cakes.  Your host, however, should be prepared to pay for all of the food/drinks in addition to the cost of renting the room. 

Hope you get the dirty house and the family drama taken care of before you bring home a baby into that environment.  If it's bad enough you can't have people over to visit...:whistles:

In my family showers are always held in a private room at a restaurant or country club.  We usually are given the choice of a limited menu or there is a buffet set up for our group and obviously the host picks up the bill for everyone.  We have never had a problem bringing in cake but you will most likely need to purchase the meal from the restaurant.

If you are looking for a public venue on a tighter budget where you may be able to bring your own food, some options would be a community center, pavilion at a local park (depending on the weather), church fellowship halls, and community rooms at apartment/condo complexes or nursing homes. 

What are your hosts' thoughts on all of this?  The venue should really be determined by them.

This.  We used to have all wedding and baby showers at the multi-purpose room of my church.  Worked great.  A restraraunt with a private room is great too.  Where ever your host wants to have it and can afford it.

Yes this. The bolded is important.

Talk to your host. The burden of planning shouldn't fall on you it is the responsibility of the host. If she needs a space you could also try renting a multipurpose area in a church. My shower and the shower I hosted were held at my church. It didn't cost me anything because I am a member there BUT we rent it out for $50 or so. It may be worth looking into.

I'm renting a banquet room at a restaurant for my baby shower. My shower isn't until January 5 but I'm getting more and more excited for it by the day. I feel where you're coming from. My house is just too small for my family and friends and I would rather not intrude in someone else's home so we decided to just have it at a nice restaurant. Most places you can bring in whatever you want. I know at the restaurant I'm having it at there are a few rules and restrictions (no tape on the walls, etc.) but it's minor stuff that doesn't necessarily matter. 

I hope you find a good place to have your shower at! Let us know how it turns out and where you decided to throw the shower.
