If you take baths...

How do you know how hot to make the water so it's not TOO hot?

I'm not a big bath-taker but my back has been killing me.  We have a Kohler tub with jets that we never use so I figured maybe I should take advantage of it with all this pain.

Any thoughts/info on this are greatly appreciated :)

I think at this point in your pregnancy it's not about how hot but how long you stay in the hot water. I believe your baby can now, for the most part, regulate its own body temp. So if your body temp raises it shouldnt effect LO too much.I always take baths, and I would say the temp is probably around 99-100 degrees.

I take a bath almost every night (even when I'm not pregnant). TBH, I make it as hot as I want to, which is pretty hot, and I just don't stay in it for too long.  If I start to sweat, I get out or I add some cold.  DS survived it :)

Most women or people in general, will get out of the tub before their body reaches a dangerous temperature. Our bodies typically know when it's too hot. I wouldn't worry too much, just relax and enjoy yourself!

P.S. I'm jealous of your fancy bath tub! A tub with jets sounds amazing right now.

I take baths all the time. I also like the water pretty hot. I don't stay in too long and if I feel like I'm getting too hot (sweating, fast heart rate) I get out immediately.

I test the water with a candy thermometer. H laughs at me but I like my baths. I don't want it to be too hot. I will buy a new candy thermometer when I need it in the kitchen.

if you can sit in it, it's probably fine.

I'm a big bath taker, with hot water and I have not adjusted anything because I am pregnant. The water cools down after a bit anyways, so it's not like a hot tub where it's constantly hot.

Honestly, I never adjusted my bath temps. I literally use no cold water. Our water heater is crap-tastic and varies from super hot to just right. My sister never stopped her super hot baths either and my nephew is fine. If you start sweating or feeling hot I'd get out. But with most tubs the heat typically goes out quicker than your body temp would rise to a "bad" level.

Man I take daily 2 hour baths over here. I make it nice and warm. To just about where it has a little steam and it turns me slightly pink (not hard to do). Then just sit in it until it get luke warm and then add in a little more hot water and dump some warm water. I repeat this a few times. It's nice.

You want it to be relatively close to your own body temperature. If you have to ease it slowly, it's too hot. Babies cannot regulate their own body temp for even a while after birth. But, I seriously doubt you could do much damage with a bath you're comfortable sitting in. The starts to co as soon as it's run, so you should be fine.
Side note, clean your jets first!! If you never use it, mold and mildew will spew out of those pipes all over you. Full up the tub above the jets with water was hot as it goes. Run it with the jets on 1/4 cup cascade complete powder and 1/2 cup vinegar. run for at least 10 minutes. Drain and rinse. Full with cold water above jets and run 10 minutes. Drain and rinse, then enjoy!

I was about to say the same thing about cleaning the jets.  We don't use ours often so we have junk coming out of the jets when we use.  I try to remember to turn them on at least once a month to keep them from getting nasty.

I make it tepid. Babies cannot regulate their body temps even outside the womb for a while. I heard that if you have to put your foot in and "get used to the water temp" it's too hot. Your skin shouldn't be red. I like my baths hot- my DH asks me if I'm boiling a lobster in there so I definitely have adjusted it during this pregnancy.

I'd love to have your tub! As long as you can sit comfortably, you should be ok. Your body will tell you when it's too warm or been too long (sweating, etc.)

You can always use a baby temper, you'll need one anyway ;) We have a rubber ducky with the word hot on the bottom and it stays blue except when the water is too hot them it turns bright white.

Otherwise, hot baths aren't bad because unlike a hot tub, the water cools over time... it doesn't retain that temp of 100-102.

Just get it so it's nice and warm to be relaxing but doesn't burn you... use your judgement. I took pretty hot baths when I was pregnant with DD from 12wks-birth and we're fine.

This.  If you can sit in it, it's fine.

The issue with hot tubs is that you may get in and the water will be fine, but the temp can increase without you knowing it.  And that can raise your core temperature, which is bad if your core temp is over 100.

With baths, the water temperature will naturally decrease over time.  So, as long as it isn't too hot for you when you first get in, you should be okay.

We have a jet tub too so I've been taking baths pretty much daily. I run mine fairly hot but not as hot as I used to. Basically, if I'm sweating, it's too hot and I'll add cold.

I make it as hot as I want to. That being said, we have a crappy little tub, so none of my belly is under water anyway.

If I get hot or sweaty, I get out or add cool water.

My Dr. MIL said if you have to ease yourself into the water it's too hot. But yeah, it's also important to not spend too long in as well.
