Share Your First Ultrasound Experiences

Let's all share our first ultrasound experience!

My husband teared up. I was so happy. The heartbeat was incredible when I heard it. I am 7 1/2 weeks so the baby was tiny and doesn't have feet yet..I can't wait till he/she is bigger! :)

A whole lot of us won't have an ultrasound until we're well into the 2nd trimester.

I was terrified!  We did IVF and got great beta #s, but I was absolutely terrified they were going to find empty gestational sacs.  We went at 6w5d.  The doc inserted and then said "well, here are your twins..."  I just looked back at DH in disbelief.  We were both SO excited and I couldn't stop smiling.  I couldn't use the word "pregnant" before the u/s.  Now I need to wrap my head around the twins part.  I'm still having a hard time enjoying this and stupid IF ruined me.  Now I'm worried that when we go back for our 2nd u/s at 9w, I will hear "It seems the babies stopped developing around _w_d."  I'm going to try to stay positive and enjoy every second of this.  I can't wait to go back and see that things are still going strong!

We just went for our very first u/s today! It was the most amazing experience to have confirmation that there really is a baby in there! And relief too! We measured exactly what we were expecting, 7w 1d! Heartbeat was perfect too! A happy and healthy pregnancy to all of you :)

I had mine at 7w6d. I knew it was going to be a transvaginal u/s but im a first timer and didnt know what to expect. My baby's father wasn't able to make it 'cause of work so my best friend came with me.. it was more awkward than i anticipated lol. I made her stand in the corner until i was on the table and unsuccesfully trying to "cover" myself, needless to say seeing my little bean and listening to his/her heartbeat made up for my friend seeing my side butt!

Had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks 3 days since I had an IUI. I was nervous, but my husband was able to be there to and it was so awesome to see the little heartbeat. I cried after the dr left, which I think was a mix of relief and happiness!

We had our u/s last Thursday.  I didn't know exactly how far along I was since I wasn't charting and really couldn't remember exactly when my last cycle even was since we weren't TTC.  The doctor wanted a better idea of where I am in the pregnancy.  I honestly wasn't thinking too much about it ahead of time so I had no expectations.  We just showed up and he glopped that goo on my belly and started moving the wand around.  When he found my uterus is was empty!  I had a moment of panic of "where the heck is the baby!" but after a minute or two of searching he found it.  Said the baby was hiding but very much there.

There was a heartbeat and the baby measured 6 weeks, 6 days.  We had estimated that I was 7 weeks, 1 day and he opted not to change my due date since the ultrasound could show an error of up to a week.  He also found the giant cyst on my right ovary and I asked him to look at the left one and the cyst was still on that one, too.  But he didn't seemed worried and they've never really bothered me.

That was it.  He did say "only one baby in there" to which my brain thought "of course, I'm not having twins!" before realizing that there really was no way for me to know that prior to this.  Just my assumption, I guess!

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

First ultrasound with this pregnancy.... I cried in shock and some fear when they said it was twins. DH was grinning from ear to ear saying how cool it was.

We had our first this past Friday. I wish I could say we were excited but really we were nervous wrecks. Our tech was really nice but clearly not used to a couple with a long history of losses. She had orders to check out my ovaries for OHSS and zoomed past my ute. Took her time on the ovaries and then slowly goes back to show us our baby. All was perfect! We were in tears but then she says, "oh I saw the heart beating on my way to your ovaries but I didn't want to tell you! Thought itd be a fun surprise to make you wait!"

Personally, I would have liked to throat punch her. She knew how terrified we were and actually thought she was being clever and cute. We were both crying, convinced we were about to find out we were losing another baby because it didn't make sense that she wasn't saying anything or showing us anything. All so she could "surprise" us....

That is so NOT cool!  I'm sure my DH would have probably said something, especially given your history.  Although, I'm very happy that you got to hear the heartbeat!

I had my first u/s at 6w3d today and since there was a resident in the room it was super long. Both Dh and I thought we saw 2 babies but weren't really sure what we were looking at. It took forever for them to finally tell us it was identical twins, just in shock! I have another u/s schedule in 1.5 weeks!

I was so nervous for my first appointment, which was this past Friday. This is my first, it wasn't planned, me and DH are excited, but obviously new things can bring on nervousness.

I was 6w6d along at the appt. Since I wasn't positive when my LMP was, they sent us to get an transvaginal u/s. When I first saw the little nugget, it was so overwhelming to think that I really DID have a baby growing inside of me. Then, I saw my husband stand up and walk over to the monitor and his eyes just lit up - that's when we realized the heart was beating. She played the sound for us and I just cried, and DH was speechless. We couldn't believe that a baby 1 cm long already had such a strong beating heart. We were (and still are) truly on cloud nine.

I had my first ultrasound last Wednesday due to spotting, at 5 weeks 5 days... and all they saw was an empty gestational sac. (Which they told me was perfectly fine)

Sunday morning, I had another (again due to spotting), at 6 weeks 2 days... and they saw a gestational sac and the yolk sac. (Which they again told me was perfectly fine)

I'm getting another on Wednesday afternoon, at 6 weeks 5 days... and fingers crossed that there will actually be a fetal pole!

Sadly, since the first two were ordered by the ER, the ultrasound technicians refused to even let DH in the room, let alone show anything to either of us. :(   Hopefully the technician on Wednesday will show us SOMETHING!
