Naps

Anyone else struggling with daytime naps? DD will be 6 weeks old tomorrow. This morning she woke up at 8:20, napped from 11:00-11:30, and again at 3:00 for approx 20 minutes and that's it. Most days she will sleep for an hour or two after her two morning feedings and then is awake most of the afternoon/evenings, making for a REALLY fussy baby. We went for three walks today in the stroller, hoping she would fall asleep...didn't work. I've walked, rocked, swing, sleep sheep, bassinet, PNP...nothing works!

Anyone else having napping problems? Suggestions?

jillychris, OMG, I posted the exact same thing yesterday on my BMB.  I'm blaming this on the "wonder week 5" and hope it goes away soon.  My LO used to nap great, but for the last few days, it has become so difficult to get him to nap even though he was tired.  He also used to fall asleep as soon as we go for a walk in the stroller, but not anymore - he stays awake!  The only way I can get him to sleep is a tight swaddle followed by "jiggling", otherwise he'll keep crying and screaming.  However, as soon as I put him down in the swing or PnP napper, he wakes up and starts screaming again.

The few times I was lucky enough that he stays asleep when placed in the PnP, he startles and wakes himself up in < 5 minutes and starts crying again.

The past weekend DH & I resorted to taking turns holding LO while he naps... that was the only way he would stay asleep and not wake up from startling.  Since DH went back to work today, I spent 3.5 hrs this afternoon holding him in my arms (and nursing) before he went into a real deep sleep.  Only then I was able to put him in the PnP without him waking up.

I guess my suggestion is:

1) a tight swaddle if you aren't doing that already.

2) try to see if she'll fall asleep in your arms,

3) After she's asleep, wait until she goes into deep sleep/quiet sleep before you put her in the bassinet.

Good luck!  I hope this is just a phase for our LOs, cuz I really need DS to nap well without me holding him the whole time!  I need to get stuff done...

Oh PB, sorry to hear you are dealing with this too. Usually my arms are a great nap spot for her...today NOTHING I did work. Though, I didn't try swaddling her. We usually swaddle her to go to sleep at night and I didn't even think of it today. DH came home, and took her from me, telling me to "go take a shower or something" (Love him!!!!). After almost 11 hours of being awake (aside from a few cat naps), five minutes of him walking with her, and she is knocked out! Poor thing must've been exhausted. DH is patting himself on the back!
