contractions...is it too early??? scared!

I will be 37 weeks, which is considered full term, tomorrow. I had my daughter at 37 weeks and she was perfect, no health problems at all, so I know that it is fine to deliver this early.

 I had my doctors appointment today and she told me I was 50% effaced and 1 cm dialated. That sounds great for this point and I was thinking I probably had at least another week to go, but I have been having strong contractions for the last three hours. I am at the point where I can still walk and talk through them, but barely. I took a bath about an hour ago, which didn't help and tried laying down and tried walking around and nothing is stopping them. They are about 4 minutes apart now. Here is my question. Is this too soon to be going into labor if I was only 1 cm dialated this morning? I am a little scared. Thanks!

I don't think so, after hearing stories recently about women being 0cm dilated at a checkup and going into labor the same or next day!

I will also be 37 weeks tomorrow and had my first at 37 weeks as well. :) Good luck!

My last baby was born at 36 weeks 3 days. I had just seen my doctor a day or 2 before I had her and was at 1cm and 50%. She was perfectly healthy with her weight and breathing.

It's not too soon, and just because you weren't very dialated this morning doesn't mean that can't change quickly and be completely different tonight.

Not too soon to be going into labour.  If you can't walk or talk through them and they are lasting for the "511" rule (which I just learned!) then I'd consider calling L&D.  (Contractions coming every five mins, lasting a min, for an hour).

Nope, and since you had your DD at 37 weeks, it isn't odd for you at all.  If I were you with contrax four minutes apart, I would call your OB and see what they said to do.

As for as the dilation, anything can change at any moment.  For me, at 39w with DS I was a fingertip dilated, and went into labor at 39w5d.

You don't have to be dilated AT ALL to go into labor so I'd give a call, for sure.

not at all and with it being your second and your contractions being 4 minutes apart I would call your doctor NOW
