Do I need to buy a bunch of little pants?

FTM, 31 weeks tomorrow and starting to worry about stuff that might be stupid (feel free to tell me if this question is stupid).

We were so lucky to have been given 2 showers and receive a bunch of beautiful onesies for the baby (among other clothes). I'm wondering- since she'll be born in February, do I need to get a bunch of little pants for her to wear with the onesies or is this ridiculous since she'll be inside our house pretty much exclusively for the first few months? I also considered that maybe newborns need changed so much that If they wore pants, you'd spend all of your time taking off and putting on pants. I don't want her to be cold, but I didn't see a ton of 0-3 month old pants at Carter's or BRU when I went looking this weekend, leaving me to wonder whether (a) they don't carry a lot of them bc they're not really needed or (b) most of their 0-3 month pants were sold out because you really do need them.

Goodness, I am losing my marbles.

For the first few months you could just keep the baby wrapped in a blanket pretyt much. They grow out of 0-3 so quickly, it's hardly worth buying that size at all.

Have you looked into baby legs? I don't remember if they have that size or not. We used a lot of footed pjs at tht point, but we keep the house pretty cold.

They have NB Baby Legz and the regular one's are pretty one size fits all for babies. I hate pants on little babies. It's such a pain. So I just got some cute and some neutral Baby Legz.

I'm in Wisconsin. My babies pretty much lived in plain onesies with a sleeper on top, b/c it was cold here. If it's really warm I don't think you'd need pants very much. Maybe just a couple pairs. Carters sells sets of basic baby pants.

As others have mentioned, DD pretty much lived in a onesie and sleepers her first 4-6 months, at least while we were at home. Even though it was late spring / early summer when we brought her home, our apartment is very cool and I wouldn't have felt comfortable just having her in a onesie. Even when we changed her, if we didn't have the heat lamp turned on, her skin would marble (get bluish/red streaks from being cold). Really, though, it depends on how warm you keep your house. You'll definitely want to have some sort of leg covering for going out, though, whether that be sleepers, pants, or baby legz.

I heart baby pants. I was never a fan of onesies, I prefer shirts and pants. I have a ton of them. It's no big deal to change them.

I have always been a fan of the onesie and layettes.  As for little pants, it cannot hurt to have a few on hand.  Though you will mostly not need them, if you do go somewhere you might need them...or if the DH is watching the baby.  If you are cold, the baby is probably cold and if you are hot, likewise.

I always keep pants on baby when they are that little-my boys always got cold easily and I hated seeing there little legs turn so cold the moment I opened their blanket. I mostly buy sleep n plays though.

I love this post, because with my first she went without pants for a few days until my MIL calmly suggested we put some pants on her!  Ha!  Duh I know.  But, she had all these cute tops and no pants... Anyway.  I wouldn't bother buying a load of tiny pants, and just use onesies as undershirts and let your LO wear jammies for the first few months.  That's what we came to do anyway.

For the first few months, she will spend most of her time in footed sleepers.  When she is not in those, she will wear long-sleeved onesies with pants and socks, but that will be rare for the first month or so.  Honestly, the little cotton pants aren't too difficult to get on and off, and socks can stay on during changes (those are the things that are a bit more difficult to get on).  I have a few pairs of cotton pants, a few pairs with feet attached, and a bunch of sleepers.  Under the sleepers, I always use a short-sleeved onesie.

I bought pants from 3-6 months and 6-9 months. They worked out great. We do a onesie for bedtime with pants.

I got some baby legs.  They were running  sale this week. (might have ended) $3.00 a piar and $3.00 ship.  Much better deal then the $4.00 a pair and $5.99 ship I did on Cyber Monday!

I did buy some of the footie pants at Carters in newborn for while I have the kimono tops on the baby to roll under the belly button. Other than that, I mostly have onesies. I think the footie bottoms will come in handy for that time just to get me through the first couple days or so and not worry about fighting socks and stuff. I have 3 total. One pair I got on consignment for $.50

If you want some try to find them on consignment. I did buy some 0-3 regular pants for $.50 and if I end up kicking myself for even buying them I'm not  out that much and won't feel bad throwing them away or giving them away.

Baby leg warmers would be much easier than pants for the 10 diaper changes a day for a newborn. You'd only have to unsnap the onesie instead of pulling pants up and down.

With sleepers, you have to take their
feet, legs and butt out of the sleeper to
change them.... which might be colder for them, plus I found it to be a pain.

But ultimately you'll figure out what works for you. I'd hold off buying more than one or two of anything until then.

I bought 2 pairs of NB "jeggings" and 2 pairs of NB regular leggings walmart for $3.88 each.  I figure they could go with all the newborn onesies that we got.

Thanks ladies for all of the helpful responses! I think I am going to buy a couple of pairs of baby legs (didn't ever see these before) and some little pants and figure out what works best for us.

Haha!  I had this same question running through my mind this week.  We have a handful of pairs of pants for 0-3 and NB and I finally decided yesterday that in the first few weeks, that would do since the baby would probably be in sleepers or swaddled for most of the time indoors and he can wear pants when we go out.  I just didn't want to have a lot of unnecessary clothes.
