NPR: Random Holiday Card Question

Normally we get Christmas cards that just say "Happy Holidays" on them but this year they say "Merry Christmas". I have a few friends that are Jewish and I am debating if I should get separate generic cards for them. The cards we got are photo cards so these would not be. Should I just send the "Merry Christmas" ones anyway even though they don't celebrate Christmas?? Or just write a little note on the back of theirs? Thoughts?? I'm sure I am over thinking this!

I would get "happy holidays" or something else generic, especially if you know for sure certain friends/family are Jewish/practice Judaism. You could always add a print out of the picture you used for the "Merry Christmas" card, if you don't want it to seem like an afterthought of if you really were looking forward to sharing the picture. Happy Holidays!

You can take this with a grain of salt since I'm not Jewish, but I'm sending Christmas-themed cards to all our friends, regardless of faith/religion.  Personally, I wouldn't mind receiving cards from other faiths and have appreciated being involved in different celebrations over the years.  Also, particularly with picture cards, how often do people actual read the words? :-)  I can tell you the pictures on the cards we've gotten so far, but there is no way I could remember if they've said "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays".

If putting Merry Christmas on the card is important to you, put Merry Christmas on the card.  I put Merry Christmas on my card and then for non-Christian friends I write a note that includes happy holidays or for your Jewish friends maybe say Happy Hanukkah.  I don't see an issue with it.

This. A little note is a great touch but I really don't see the need for creating a whole new card with another saying.

I wouldn't be offended if I got a "merry christmas" card. They shouldn't be either. It's a ridiculous amount of work to be "PC" these days. Just say what you mean. No one will get offended.
