I always thought they had some sort of diagnostic thing they had to determine at this stage for genitals. If they can't see them, I thought you were usually automatically rescheduled for another date, because they still needed some data?
No. Examining the genitals is not part of an A/S.
To the OP, as your OB if he/she plans to do any more "routine" u/s. Otherwise, you'll probably have to pay for one out of pocket somewhere. Also keep in mind, the further along you get, the less room there is and the less chance they'll actually be able to get a good shot of that part of the baby. I had a 30w u/s with DD and she was already big enough that they couldnt really get a clear shot of that area. So even if your OB does standard late term u/s, there's no guarantee. I'd just pay for one if I were you.
