Shower Games

I know a lot of people poo-poo the shower games, but my family LOVES that kind of stuff.  What are some ideas of acceptable shower games?

I suppose whatever games your family has enjoyed in the past as long as they don't involve humiliating the new mom.  For example, no games about trying to use toilet paper to guess her waist size.  Personally, I don't like the diaper guessing games where someone puts a melted candy bar in a diaper, made to look like poop, and people have to guess which candy bar it is.

OK, here are some of the ones i've played:

1) guess the baby due date along with pounds, height and weight.

2) Baby bingo

3) get ribbon or TP and have everyone take as much as they think will fit around the mommy's tummy. The closest wins

4) play music while unwrapping the gifts and have someone man it.  They will stop the music on a present and then that person gets a gift.

5) word scrambles, celebrity baby matching, crosswords, door prizes (guess how much candy is in a bowl.

Thats just a few... there are so many.  Good Luck and have fun!!!

I saw something on Pintrest that I thought was so clever. Depending on the size of the shower you could

buy Wooden letters in the name of the baby

or

buy wooden letters A-Z

Get paint, stencils decorating stuff

Have each guest work on decorating a letter throughout the shower and send them home with the MTB for the baby's future room.

I would want to get a color pallate from the MTB prior to the shower to know what paint/supplies to buy.

-We did decorate a diaper at the shower I threw. I just bought diapers in the mother's preferred brand and had the guests each decorate one. The MTB picked her favorite and that guest got a prize.

I like these kind of games that are interactive and encourage conversation rather than ones that require everyone's attention at one time.

I've been to so many showers (started when I was really young - my sister is 17 years older than I am!) and our family/friends have seen just about every game out there.  I try to do something "different" when I host a shower.

1.  The MTB takes a tray filled with small baby related items around the room...showing each guest what is on the tray.  The hostess tells everyone to take a good look (that is ALL she says).  The MTB then walks out of the room (and stays out) and the hostess asks guests to answer questions about the MTB.  What color is her outfit (pants, dress, top, etc), did she have on earrings, how many, rings, how many, necklace, anything in her hair, nail polish, what color, shoes, what color, etc. etc.  The person who gets the most right wins.

2.  We also do one where we send aroung a roll (or a couple) of toilet tissue and tell the guests to take as much as they think they need.  Some people take 3 squares or less and some take 20 or more.  After everyone has their tissue...they are told to make a bow out of it.  The MTB decides which bow looks the best.

3.  A couple of easy ones are word scrambles and guess the number of Q-tips in a jar or baby bottle.

My hostess is planning to have an activity for the main entertainment rather than games, although I'm sure we will have one or two. We found a headband making tutorial on Pinterest that she's using and her/my mom are taking me to pick out the supplies. Truthfully I'm most excited about the headbands. I'll pick my favorite at the end and that person will win a prize... If its for a boy you could do onesies or even Velcro ties decorated that you could attach to a onsie.

My host did one, that had bags each with a letter spelling baby shower, then she put a baby related item in it that started with the letter on the bag. So B for bibs or booties, A for aspiration, Y was yellow Ducky. My sis wants to use this game at my other shower because she wants to do activity tables instead of group games as not everyone enjoys them. Whoever got the most matches wins, no one got the E it was emery board so she is going I try to find a different E item.

i went to a shower recently where we played different things like word scrambles and baby predictions (weight, date, etc.) and it was a blast! we are apparently a competitive group haha.

i am also a big fan of having each person or table decorate a onesie or canvas or letters for the nursery. people love to do that type of thing, and you will probably end up with some really pretty (or funny) stuff!

i have also seen where guests attach notes to/write notes on the bottoms of diapers, so that mom & dad get something funny or sweet to read on those middle-of-the-night diaper changing adventures.  not really a game, but a fun activity.
