Not going to continue pumping

Hi all

I decided that I am going to call it quits (please dont judge! I feel awful enough about it). I have only been pumping for a few days but its really not for me. I suffer from migraines and they occur when I pump now, and I cant take anything for it. Im going to switch to formula, but Im wondering how I do this.. Do I start pumping less (how much less?)

I know I cant quit cold turkey.

I responded to your other question to but I just wanted to say that I quit pumping cold turkey and didnt even leak.  Now, I have a crappy supply so that is probably why I didnt have any problems doing it.   You may want to talk to a lactation consultant about what way is best to quit.

I quit after barely getting any milk for two weeks. I never leaked or got engorged. I just wore a really tight bra. I hated being chained to the pump and all the washing. I never got more than an ounce a session.

Please don't feel bad about not pumping! I weaned myself down from it, and then used cabbage leaves and tight sports bras. I still leak from time to time (6 weeks out) so don't be suprised if that happens.

I feel your pain.  I'm not getting much either.  I don't think I'm working hard enough at it, but boy do I hate trying to pump every 2-3 hours and washing all the stuff.  I don't get a ton, maybe an ounce and 2 if I'm lucky.  I just mix it with formula figuring at least he's getting a little.  But it's such a pain!  I don't want to feel guilty for stopping one day.  I never thought all this BF and pumping stuff would be so stressful and that I'd feel guilty.  It's bad enough we have to post messages for help on here and even have to say "don't judge".  You have to do what's best for you and your baby.  (c:

My LO was born 1 month early and could not latch. We had to feed formula at the hospital and I began pumping. NOTHING came out for the first 5 days so I continued with the formula.

Long story short...I hated pumping and never made enough milk to feed him only breastmilk. I always had to mix it with formula. I pumped for about 3 weeks and was gradually getting less and less milk. I decided if I am not going to make enough milk to feed him I'll just pump 2x a day until I dry out. It only took about a week and I was down to .5 oz each session and I just stopped pumping.

I feel great that I gave it a shot, but It wasn't for me. My son had breastmilk for the first month of his life. He received the antibodies from me that he needed and I am a much happier mommy now that I am not attached to a machine. I believe you have to do what is best for you and your baby. Your needs count too.

I just went through this myself. I had major guilt about it, but EP is hard (so is breast and formula feeding but I am just talking about pumping right now). It is nerve racking make sure you are pumping enough - you are definitely attached to the pump. Since I came back to work a week ago, I decided that I didn't want the majority of the (so little precious) time I have to spend with my LO cut down even more by being attached to the pump. I did quit cold turkey, but I did not have a good supply to begin with and was eating oatmeal and taking supplements in order to increase. I quit a week and a half ago and am still leaking a small amount but have not had any pain.
