For second time or more moms..

Are you more or less anxious about labor this time around?

This will be my third baby and I think I'm more anxious! With my first son, my water broke but I needed to have Pitocin after no dilation happened a day later. I had the epidural and everything was wonderful after that. I assumed it would be the same with my second and wasnt bervous at all, but it was not. I got to 6 cm within about 2 hours of arriving at the hospital, then they broke my water and I got the epidural. It didn't take and it only numbed a small area on my thigh. They were about to fix it but I went from 610 cms in 15 mins and it was too late as the baby started crowning. I pushed and he was out in 2 pushes. While that was all wonderful and fast, I wasn't prepared for that pain! I really thought I was going to die. I know I could do it again but I really really don't want to! I'm so scared its going to be even faster this time. Call me a baby, but I WANT that epidural. I am also scared of a csection!

What do you ladies think? Are you more prepared and less anxious this time around? Thanks for sharing!

I'm way less anxious. And way more excited! I had no idea how empowering labor would be.

I'm scared.  DD1 was 30 hours of labor and DD2 was only 2.5 hours from first contraction to holding her in my arms.  I was only at the hospital for 15 minutes before she was born.  I now know I can go naturally so that's not what I'm afraid of.  I'm afraid I won't make it to the hospital on time and have to deliver this baby on the side of the road.

More anxious. With DD, I was dilated to 6 at 36 weeks without feeling a single contraction. I got my epidural before they broke my water...I was in labor for 3 hours, pushed for 15, and done. It was so easy, and I'm nervous for this one since I really don't know what labor feels like. I'm not prepared like most are with their second...

I am just going with the flow. This is my third. My kids are 6 and 4.5. It has been ages since I had an infant in the house. I have been spending lots of time looking up neat new things they have for babies! :)

I have no worries when It comes to labor, it's just one day of extreme pain ;) the worst part of mine was the 3+ hours of pushing but at the end I started listening to hubby and not the nurse, I got it figured out.

I am less anxious about the whole pregnancy in general, however, labor is stressful to me this time around because I don't know if I will be able to deliver the twins vaginally.

DD1 I was in labor for 28.5 hours and she was born 5 hours after they broke my water and I got an epidural. I pushed 4 times and she was here. Labor seems to be the only thing I am not nervous about. I feel like I know how things go and if everything goes according to plan then i will be just fine and hopefully go home early!!! Its the new baby and young child thing that makes me most nervous. Its going to be brand new all over again. Just hoping things go as nicely as they did with DD1

Definitely less anxious.  I think a lot of the fear surrounding labor is fear of the unknown, and now I know what to expect.  Yes it's painful and unpredictable, but the pain subsides and really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.,,, plus at this point I've forgotten about most of it!

That being said, my first delivery was much like your first delivery, so maybe I'm in for it this next time...

Definitely LESS anxious.  I'm much more excited.  I had a pretty easy breezy L&D and went really fast, so I guess my only concern would be making it to the hospital in time and figuring out who will watch DS while we are there!

Less anxious. That could change once I'm closer but there's comfort in having been through it before.

Less anxious.  I had a super easy labor and a wonderful epidural.  I can see how you would be anxious about not getting an epidural.  I am an anesthesiologist, so getting an early epidural is definitely something I desire :)

More prepared and less anxious.  I labored for 18 hours before having an unplanned c section.  DH and I had virtually no experience with babies.  This time I will have a much better handle on things and will be having a planned c section, so I am much more relaxed about it.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the chances of the epidural not working on me again? Was it something to do with my body or was it sonething the anestheologust did. He told me I was just feeling pressure and not pain but I KNEW how an epidural was supposed to work. I could feel cold and everything, except fir a small spot on my thigh. I am terrified of this happening again!!

I am way more excited. DS I was induced due to his size one day shy of my due date, I did get an epi and went thru 10.5 hours of labor. DD was much much more expedient in her arrival I had about a solid 3 hour labor no epi and there she was. I think I am just anxious to meet this one more than anything and I am a lot more relaxed.

Hey your not alone.  The epi didn't work on me either.  I had a block on one side of my body.  I am WAY more anxious for #2.  My first delivery ended in a c-section for various reasons.  I have a new OB this time around (my first one moved too far away, but I loved her).  I need to spend some time research Vbac vs C-section to really find out if I could/want to try Vbac with all the issues I had with my first delivery.

Way less.

Labor wasn't bad at all last time. But I only got to 6cm before getting epi/pit and that shitt went to hell real fast. I'm going for a med free VBAC this time and I'm super excited. I know I can do it, and I'm ready to do it. I'm already much more prepared for labor. Am I a little worried about pushing a baby out of my vag without painkillers? Sure. But it doesn't hold a candle to my excitement.

More nervous. This will be my 4th, and each of my deliveries has been worse than the last. I'm hoping for a VBAC, so I'm super nervous that it won't work out.

This is me exactly. DS was born very quickly- I was in labor less than two hours total, and he was born shortly after we got to the hospital. He was delivered by two nurses because the doctor didn't make it in time. I'm scared that this time could go even more quickly.

Definitely less anxious because I know what to expect.  I had a very fast labor/delivery with Li, so I know I'll need to get to the hospital ASAP because they said the second comes faster, and there is no way I'm doing it without the epidural.

I was way less anxious. The most anxiety comes from not knowing what to expect. Of course every experience can be different, but you have a general idea the second time around. My second was a breeze compared to my first.

Definitely more anxious. I'm only 5 wks and I'm worrying about the birth! My DD was late and they had to induce, but it didn't work. She was a c-section and I really really really don't want to go through that again. It was the week from hell until she was finally out.

I'm more anxious this time around. When I gave birth to my DS, he was born within an hour of my water breaking (and active labor beginning). I'm really nervous that this next labor will be really fast and I won't even make it to the hospital.

This will be my 4th.

I'm less nervous with each one.

My first:

13.5 hours started with water breaking at home. I got the epi. Pushed for maybe 40 min. It was great!

My second:

2 hours flat from "cramps" waking me up to baby coming out at hospital. We barely got into a delivery room in time. I was 9 cm when I got to triage. No epi due to lack of time.

My third:

Maybe 3-4 hours total. I was actually induced with pitocin (I had been on bedrest for 10 weeks and was finally DONE being pregnant once I hit 39 weeks). But I actually went without painkillers/epi. I was a bit scared to even try it as I heard pit makes the contractions much stronger. It sucked, yeah, I felt like I was going to die briefly (but I felt that wasy during delivery of #2 as well) - but it was brief and then I was able to get up immediately and walk around/shower/etc. This one was interesting too b/c I seemed to stall at 7 cm for a while and with back-labor which was unexpected. Finally a nurse had me sit up and she did some sort of hard massage/rubbing on my lower back and all of a sudden the contractions started slamming me. I/we think maybe baby was turned the wrong way (sunnyside up) and flipped when the nurse did the massage and I changed position. All of a sudden baby started coming. Despite being induced (so my doc was in the building) - my doctor couldn't get back to my room in time. The baby just came and the nurses had to handle the delivery. Hat tip to my nurses - this was the only delivery where I didn't tear at all. :)

I'm hoping to go without the epi again this time but I always take a pretty laid back - we'll just see how it goes approach. I'm not trying to be a hero. But I like not having to be pumped up with fluids and being able to get up right after.

Way less anxious. This is my third pregnancy past the first trimester. I delivered my son, but he was so small. I had a c-section with DD and will have a RCS with this child. I was terrified of having a c-section, but for me, it was so easy. I know it's not like that for everyone, but I remember moving around so much easier then the lady in the room next to me who delivered vaginally. Honestly, 2 of my m/c were at 10 and 11.4 weeks respectively and that physical pain was 10x worse then the c-section IMO.  I'm not that anxious about the delivery part, just the pregnancy part. But I wish I had the VBAC option, honestly I do. It's just not in the cards for me.

TTC since 6/2003. m/c 9/14/03 8 weeks, 5 chemical pregnancies, mmc 6/04 12 weeks, Michael born sleeping 5/25/05 at 22weeks always our angel, fought ovarian cancer and won, m/c 4/06 5.2 weeks and 7/07 6.6 weeks,Our Miracle baby B born 4/8/10,mc 12/18/11 at 5.3 weeks, BFP 10/26/12 dating u/s on 11/8/12 showing a strong heartbeat!EDD July 4,2013. I wasn't anxious about it the first time around and I'm not this time either.  I'm just hoping that this time I will go into labor on my own rather than having to be induced.
