Paternity Leave

How much time is your SO/BF/DH planning to take off after the birth of the baby? As far as I can tell, my BF will qualify for FMLA leave (his company employs more than 50 people, and he's been there 7 years). His work schedule alters 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 3 off etc. I suspect he'll have to take about 5 days off max to give him 1.5 weeks off with me to stay home. After that, my mom will be around on the nights that he works so I won't be alone unless I want to be. He works nights (going to make the nights he's off suck, but the ones he's home nice because I'll get to sleep!)

Anyway - how long is your guy taking off to be with you and the new LO?

My DH actually gets 2 weeks paid paternity leave, which is nice. He can also split it up if he wants. Last time he took a week, and then took a day here and there. I think he's planning to do the same this time.

I had LO on a Friday via C-section- DH basically banked most of his vacay and sick days and took 1.5 weeks off, and then worked 2.5 weeks half-time, from home. He works from home almost daily now, only commuting in 2-3 a month to his actual office. It's nice for him to see LO during lunch break, and for me to get relief when I want to scarf a sandwich down at lunchtime.

DH has to take vacation, but he gets plenty of it. I think I will see if he can take 5 days off and if I still need him he can work from home. Honestly, in the past he has been somewhat eager to get back to work and back to "normal".

My husband is allowed 12 weeks paternity leave and he'll probably be taking about 5-6 weeks so he can take care of LO while I'm in Nursing School. It'll be a crash course in infant care!

DH has no paternity leave, he just uses his paid vacation. With the last baby he only took the days I was in the hospital and one day after I got home. Honestly, I have no idea what he would do all day if he stayed home. Baby sleeps all day and DH would get so bored he would probably end up going stir crazy. I don't really care if he has any days off when the twins arrive either...... My mom would be a lot more help :) He isn't the best cleaner....... I always end up nitpicking when he does stuff in the house any way.

My hubby gets 12 weeks if he wants it. He's says that he'll only take 4, but I'll be surprised if he takes more than 2 weeks. He gets stir crazy. I get 21 weeks and I plan on taking all of it.

DH gets 3 weeks paternity leave which is definitely nice.  Knowing him  though he will probably work from home to keep the office from blowing up.

My DH gets 1 week paid paternity leave and then I think he'll take a week of vacation as well.  The first time around he had a ton of vacation built up so he ended up being home for a month and honestly, it was too long.  We were both going insane :-p

DH will take off for the delivery and the time I'm in the hospital and that's about it. I don't think there is a need for him to be off once we're home. Him watching me watching the baby sleep or feeding the baby will be pointless. Plus it will be a house full of women non-stop...he'll want to go back to work.

DH will probably take a week off. I love him, but if he takes anymore time then I can guarentee that I'd probably call his boss and make him go back to work. He hates having time off, he goes stircrazy, and he gets grouchy. We don't need the both of us in the same situation with the baby sleeping all day. Besides, when he comes home at night he can take the baby from me to give me my unwind time for a bit.

My hubby gets no leave of any kind :( He works on a manual mill for a warehouse and literally every other employee is at least in their 60s so I guess they don't run into this issue a lot. But he can take a few days off; he just won't get paid.

DH is in med school and will be in the middle of a hospital rotation when LO arrives, so he will likely take a couple days at most. However, he will be home every night to help out/relieve me of my duties.. :)

My DH gets up to 8 weeks paid paternity leave but he only plans to take 3 (that's what he did last time). If there are any major issues or reasons why I can't care for the children, then he'll take longer.

DH has a ton of vacation time to use, so like last time, he'll probably take two or three weeks, and then as needed.  It'll really depend on how things are going.

MH works for a major corporation so there are a lot of rules about PTO. His supervisor is great though so he is hoping that he can use sick days for the birth and couple days after. He's using up all of his vacation days for a real vacation over Christmas break and then wants to save up some more to take a week off in July or August. I don't think I'll need him home all day when the baby is first here. He works really close to our home so he can come home if I need him and both our Moms will be around to help me.

DH will take one week off. He qualifies for FMLA but it would be unpaid unless vacation time is used. To be honest, I could not stand for him to be home more than one week. It is much easier to adjust if everything goes back to normal.

DH has plenty of vacation time to use, so he'll take a week and a half when the baby is born.  RCS is scheduled for a Wednesday, so he'll start his leave that day, and then be home with us for a week before going back.  Then he plans to take 2 weeks off to stay home with the baby after I go back to work at the end of May before we start her in daycare just for the heck of it.  He did the same thing with DD, and it was a great bonding experience for them and for him to get a lot more comfortable with taking care of her on his own.

DH works for a small company, so he has to use vacation, and he only gets 10 vacation days a year, so he's saving up. He's taking a week off for sure, but he's worried about being gone for a stretch of time longer than that, so he might just work a few short weeks after that first week. We'll see!

My Dh gets a week of paternity and 25 pto days. We think he'll take the 1st week and then every Wednesday for as long as I need, probably 4 or 5 Wednesdays

DH will be taking a week off to be with me... unpaid. Because we are both teachers, my maternity leave will roll into summer vacation, and he will only have to go back to work for about a month or so until he is home with LO and I for summer break!

Last time, my DH took off the rest of the week DD was born to stay in the hospital with me (I went into labor at 10:50pm on a Tuesday night, and she was born Wednesday morning), and then took off the full next week off, so about 1.5 weeks.  Then, he went back to work.  He did take a couple days off here and there though.  It was very hard the day he went back, and I didn't think I could do it alone, but we adjusted in that first week he was back to work, and it all worked out well.  He'll probably take about the same amount of time this time around.

DH gets 12 weeks unpaid paternity leave but he can use 40 hours of sick leave and then is able to use up his vacation leave for any remaining time off.

With DS, DH took 3.5 weeks off so I could recover and he could help with the steep learning curve with a first baby and nursing. He had plenty of sick/vacation time so this was at full pay.

Luckily, DH is a teacher and has summers off so this time around he will be home (with no pay as he is not on contract but that is our normal summer) for about 6 weeks before he goes back to work to prep the classroom. I'm thinking that will really help DS transition and not feel left out.
