What OB appointments are good for my husband to attend?

We just found out we are pregnant, and we are very excited! I know that there are going to be a lot of OB appointments for us in the coming months, and it will be very difficult for my husband to make it to all of them with his job. What are the appointments that he should definitely try to make it to?

Most of them are step on a scale, pee in a cup, how are you feeling, good.

My DH cmoes to ultrasoudn appointments (dating if you have one, 20 week anatoym scan) and any genetic testing/results/informative type of appontments. We aren't doing any testing this time so he'll come to my 20 wk u/s and that's it unless he feels like comnig to keep me company at the other ones.

Please forgive my typos! I'm not as dumb as my iphone would like you to believe :)

My H has been there for every ultrasound, and he did come to the first visit where the OB used the doppler to hear the heartbeat, partly because I was scared she wouldn't find one and wanted him there just in case. And he was miserable the entire time because I also had a pelvic exam, Pap smear, and cultures at that visit. He looked at me like "WHY AM I HERE???". Lol.

Since then, I have been going by myself. I see no need for him to be there at all. I give a urine sample, get weighed, get my belly measured, and hear the heart beat on the doppler.

I'm in the same boat - I'd love for DH to be able to come to all of them, but it's just not possible with his work schedule. He did come to my first ultrasound, and he's planning to come to my next appointment since it will be my first one with the delivering OB doc and will be the first time we will listen for the heartbeat in the office. That will be it until our 20 week ultrasound.

This.  Beyond those, they're pretty routine (boring!) unless you have some specific issues, concerns or questions.

We actually have an appointment today that will just be a weigh in and usual check with the doctor.  I told DH he didn't have to come but he insists on coming to all of the appointments.  If your H can't, then I would say the u/s appointments would be the ones to make!

My DH will likely come to any u/s appointment, he may make a few others too depending on when they are scheduled.  For my 1st PG, I really wanted him at the 1st appointment because he literally knew nothing about PG and I wanted him to hear from the Dr about what we could expect over the course of the PG.

Mine only went to the sonograms. Taking off work is just impractical for both of us to wait and be out an hour later. We both are happy with that arrangement. And his bosses are too lol.

i would say the first one, they take history and everything.  maybe the 20 week one, because they do the main Ultra sound  . other then that . . I wouldn't say that any others ones are so important.

12 week is usually when you can hear HB on the doppler, 20 week u/s, and then DH came to my 28 week one when I had to test for GD. Otherwise, they are pretty boring.

My husband will be trying to make all of them. I have my appointments scheduled out for the next few months so he knows what days he needs off.

So far, I've got by myself.  Its the usual, pee in a cup, how you feeling, weight check, blood pressure check.  I don't see why  my H would have to be there, poor guy...would get so bored!

I'd say he should be there for the first US.  I'm new to this too! So I would want my H to be there on the first US.  The rest, not sure, as that would require days off.  Doesn't make sense to have him take day's off.  Besides, you can bring the US pics home! :)

Welcome and congrats!  This is my first pregnancy but my DH is coming to the first appointment next week and then just coming when I have an U/S, he isn't coming to all of them.

My DH had a very flexible job with our first so he came to every single appt. Since then - he's usually come to the U/S appts only. With this one - he won't even make the first U/S as it will be the day after Christmas and he'll have our 3 girls at home while I go. I would bring them all but obviously there's a chance we'd get bad news and I don't want that in front of my kids.

When I make my next appointment with the receptionist, she always lets me know what the next appointment will consist of, and whether or not to bring H. So, just ask if you're not sure. I'd say, all the U/S appointments for sure.

I would say anything that involves an ultrasound.  SO ask at your doctor's office.  At my dr, we get an ultrasound at every appointment in the 1st Tri, and then at the hospital for separate appointments after that.  My dr also told me at one point she was going to talk to us about what to expect, etc, with the childbirth, sometime in the 3rd Tri, so if yours does this, of course you want him to be there for that.  But as PP said, most of the appointments are weighing you, taking BP, sometimes bloodwork, measuring your belly, answering yoru questions, and it's really not necessary for your DH to be there.

DH will only try to come to anatomy scan.  The routine appointments take about 10 minutes, and i would never expect DH to try to take off work to go to those.  there is really nothing to them.

I've only had one appt. and he wasn't there for that one since we are keeping it a secret until we actually hear the heartbeat at my next appointment. I don't know if he will come to any of them since it would really give it away! Hopefully he can come for some of them though...especially the 20 week one...

So far MH has only come to one, and he will be coming to the A/S. My OB does an ultrasound at every visit, but they also put each one on a dvd for you so he can see the ultrasound that night. My first pregnancy he didn't miss a single appointment, but I don't really see the point in that anymore since he can watch the dvd anytime.

DH came to every appt with DS except for 1. This time, he was at the first appt,which included a dating us but won't be at another one till after 24 weeks because of work. He will probably miss the 20 week as too :[ but its what we have to do.

Mine has been to everything with me from the time we started seeing an RE.  He also plans to be at every appointment I have here on out. 
Began TTC #1 in January 2011
Confirmation and Removal of Endo - March 2012
+#1 on 4/1/12 - m/c @ ~8w 5d
+#2 Tx cycle 4 - 5 mg Letrozole + 75iu Follsitim & Ovidrel w/ IUI on 11/13/12 - EDD 7/23/13
7 week u/s revealed THREE babies, all with heartbeats. 153bpm, 148bpm, and 136bpm
9 week u/s revealed loss of Baby B. A and C are growing on track. A measuring 9w1d with 172bpm and C measuring 9w0d with 179 bpm.
Elective sex determination u/s on 2/8 revealed... boy AND girl!

DH hasn't come to any Dr./OB appointments, but he has gone to the ultrasound appointments.  The Ultrasound appointments have been really emotionally exiciting, whereas the Dr. appointments are get weighed, pee in a cup, blood pressure measurement.
