Calling All Tea Drinkers!

I'm craving a cup of tea.  I have English Breakfast Black Tea here at work and really want to drink it!  I googled it to make sure it was safe and found that it was.  Just want to double check with all you tea drinkers out there who know more about it than I do!  Thanks!

Black tea is fine as long as you stay under 200mg of caffeine.

Yeah, you're fine drinking it. I'm enjoying a cup of peppermint tea right now. Just count yours as some caffeine intake.

I usually drink tea at night, so I have Red Rose decaf, with two spoons of honey and one spoon of lemon. MMmm.

I drink Twinning's Lady Grey every morning at work; at home, I have an orange peel/spice black tea for the weekends.  I can give up a lot, but was so happy to be able to continue my morning cup.

Black tea is totally fine. It has less caffeine than coffee. I drink at least a cup a day!

You have to be careful with herbal teas though. Some of them aren't good when you're pregnant. I don't remember which ones off hand, but definitely check before you drink!

You are allowed up to 300mg of caffiene per day.  One cup of English breakfast tea should only be around 50mg.  You are fine.  I stopped drinking coffee during my first trimester but in my second tri my headaches got bad and my doctor recommended one cup a day and that has helped a lot.

I have a cup of black tea every morning Smile My doctor assured me that even several cups a day was fine. He said that women in England drink tea all day and they have perfectly healthy babies, so the same goes for me.

Coffee, however, he said to limit to one cup a day.

I stopped drinking coffee the day I found out I was preggers with DD and now this one.  The headaches were killer.  Pair that with nausea all day long...whew, I was happy to enter 2nd tri.  My headaches are worse now and I am happy to hear that your doc recommended a cup of tea a day!  Maybe I won't have a headache today!  Thanks for this info.

Tea is fine, it dosent have to be decaffeinated.   You would have to drink multiple cups of black tea before even reaching the amount of caffeine in one small cup of coffee.   I drink English Breakfast or Earl Grey every morning, usually two mugs, with my OB's full approval.  Then I usually have some Sleepytime (regular, no valerian) or Mint tea at night.

This! And the only teas you have to worry about are some herbal teas, since they can have a bunch of different things mixed in, so just make sure an ingredient isn't in there. I drink multiple types of teas daily and have yet to come across an herbal tea that has a "don't drink" ingredient on it.

As a side note: I recently tried Celestial Seasonings, Sugar Cookie tea. OH MY GOSH. I don't like things that taste like cookies (that is  not a cookie!) but it's so amazing.

I love tea! But always make sure that they don't have licorice spice or rasberry of course, unless your over due and want that baby out. I always drink peppermint when I am out at a resturant casue I know for sure it is fine.

All pre packaged tea they sell in grocery stores are safe to drink as they do not contain large amounts of the ingredients.

Green tea can block the absorption of folic acid so make sure you spread it out

LARGE amounts of licorice in tea has been known to cause brain issues in babies but it would have to be A LOT

Red leaf tea is said to help contractions in the 3rd trimester

The reason why they say to be careful with herbal tea is not because it's all bad, it's because it has not been studied enough .. Except for the licorice one I mentioned, that was from a study done in another country but I forget which one

Caffeine is not the devil.  Coffee is fine.  Tea is fine.

I love Twinnings English Breakfast & Irish Breakfast.  They are my favorite teas and I drink at least one cup daily.  I also drink a cup of coffee daily.

The only tea I was told to go easy on is green tea.  Too much of it is very bad for baby.
