Elliott and Elise?

Our son's name is Elliott.  We are expecting a DD and I like the name Elise.  It was not our intention to have two kids with "E" names and DH thinks it would be too alliterative.  I just have been having a hard time finding classic, strong girl names that we both like.  Elise happens to be one that fits.  Does it sound ridiculous to have two kids with "E" names?

On a related note, another name I like is Katherine, nn Kate.  My name is Kathleen and IRL I go by my full name.  DH thinks it would be weird for DD to have a name so similar to mine.  Would it seem like I'm trying to name her after myself?

I don't think two E names would necessarily be bad, but two Eli- names is way too matchy for me.

Then again, I know someone with kids named Elise and Elias, so it obviously doesn't bother everyone.

If your DH thinks Katherine would be weird, just let it go.

If you love the name then go for it. I must say thought that I do always wonder when I see parents with say first names starting with J and R name all their kids B names. I just wonder if there is a connection or if it's just coincidence.

I don't think there is anything wrong with naming your child after yourself. My mom's initials are K.D. and so she gave me the same initials, but our names are not similar. It was never confusing or weird. It actually made me feel special. Cool

Katherine Elise would be a pretty name!

I think Elliot and Elise are totally fine together.  One begins with an "el" sound while the other begins with an "ee" sound - very different to my ear.  I think it would be a bigger deal if both began with "ee" or both began with "el" sounds.

I would avoid Katherine - I'd think you were naming your kid after yourself.  Sorry!

I think they sound great together! DS is Landon and if this baby is a girl a contender is Leighton. Totally didn't mean to have two L names!

Interesting. I definitely pronounce Elliot and Elise the same, though with different emphasis: EL-ee-ut and el-EES

I'm not a huge fan of them together. Like a pp said, it's not really that they are both Es but that they are both Eli-. FWIW my name is Elly and even though I looooove Elliott I won't use it because I think it's too similar to my own name.

I don't think it's ridiculous to have two kids with "E" names. I like it, actually.

Other suggestions...

Elliott and Caroline

Elliott and Cecily

Elliott and Matilda

Also, I don't think that it would be weird for DD to have a name so similar to yours. In fact, I know of a Kathleen/Kathryn (mother/daughter) combo. Even stranger, Kathryn's brother's name is Elliot! Ha.

GL to you!

I think it's cute, but I am a fan of matchy names.

Ha.  Okay.  I talk funny :-)  I definitely say EL-ee-ott and EE-leese or uh-lees.  Regardless, there's really no L sound in the first syllable for me like there is for Elliot.  My niece's name is Elise so I say it a lot.

I wouldn't do Elliott and Elise together.  I'd probably also avoid Katherine.  Both are great girl names though.

Thanks for the input... I think you all confirmed what I knew but didn't want to admit.  DH is probably right on this one.  The hunt continues!

I like Elise and Katherine.  I would probably go with Katherine and I don't think it's too close to your name.  I think it's very pretty and it kind of honors you which is sweet.

I'd head back to the drawing table.  Elliot and Elise are far too alliterative for my taste given the El- sound for both.

And I think Kathleen and Katherine are also too close.
