34 weekers.

Are there any babies born at 34 weeks that had no nicu time or how long was your stay in nicu? Also had you had the steroid shot to help the lungs?

I have friends who had their baby at 34 weeks and stayed a little less than 2 weeks in the NICU.  She did have the steroid injection as her water broke at 32 weeks but she didn't go into labor right away.  Another friend of mine had a baby at 35 weeks, no time for the steroid injection and they had about a 2 week stay in the NICU as well. They had more issues though as baby's lungs weren't developed and baby had to be intubated for several days.

A very good friend of mine had a little boy born at 33 weeks. He was in surprisingly good shape considering how premature he was (he was already close to 6 lbs and a secent length). He still spent some time in the NICU though- I want to say a week and a half... My friend did have the shots to help with his lungs and such, but to hear her describe it, it was nowhere near as traumatic as she had imagined it was going to be when she went into labor.

Idk how your hospital works, but at mine, if your baby is born before 37 weeks it automatically goes to NICU for a check. If baby passes all the test (I know two of them are heart and lung function, but idk the other things they check for) he/she will be brought back to you.

My son was born at 34w1d and he was 5pds 5oz. He stayed in the nicu for 5 days after my c-section. He had a little fluid on his lung. He is now a healthy 8 year old that plays football, and video games all day and night if you let him

I don't think it's typically possible to avoid NICU before 36-37 weeks.

My friend had her baby at 35 weeks, he was in the "special care nursery" which is one step down from the NICU at my hospital for 4 days and then he went home.

Our friends had their baby at 34 weeks and she was required to stay in the NICU until she had a clean bill of health AND hit the 35-week mark.

My best friend had her son in August at 34 weeks 4 days and was told that babies under 35 weeks automatically go to the NICU. I don't know if she had the shot or not, it was an emergency C-section due to severe pre-eclampsia.  Her son was there for about a week and a half, then came home. He is doing fine now. GL!

At my hospital, babies 35 wks and under automatically go to the NICU to be checked, but if baby passes all the tests, they are sent back to mom or regular nursery.

Ds was born at 34w 5d and had 2 weeks in the NICU, but he had severe growth restriction and was 3lb 3oz and 15.25in. However, he was otherwise very healthy and was just there to feed and grow. He never had breathing issues and maintained his own body temp well. Also, we never had shots since at our hospital they don't do them once you're over 34 weeks.

My daughter was just born last week at exactly 34 weeks. It was due to preterm labor, and I was only able to get one steroid shot before she was born. The hospital where I delivered did not have a NICU. We were VERY fortunate that she did not have any issues. They would have transported her to a hospital with a NICU if she did. They kept her in the nursery for 24 hours to monitor her, then she was sent in to room with me the rest of the time. She was actually discharged before I was. I don't think this is the norm though, and I honestly would have felt better if she was monitored in a NICU for a while.
