~*~DOR/POF Check-in~*~

This group is open to anyone who has Diminished Ovarian Reserve or Premature Ovarian Failure (sometimes also called Primary Ovarian Insufficiency – POI).

This check-in will be posted each Wednesday.  If you’d like to be added to this group, please reply to this message, and I’ll make sure to add you for next week.  Welcome to the lurkers!  We know this can be a difficult journey, but we welcome you with open arms.  Let us know if we can answer any questions.

GRADUATES ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO POST!

Sorry it's been awhile since this has been posted, I have been crazy busy at work and traveling a fair amount.

Status Update: What is going on in your cycle or where are you in your process?

QOTW: Do you exercise or do you do any dieting? While going through cycles do you stop working out or eat healthier? Do you think it makes a difference?

***I am running out of question ideas, so let me know if you have any thoughts about QOTW!***

Update:  I'm 4dp5dt, beta is Monday 12/17.  We transferred 1 "perfect" 4AA blast, and have five frost babies, so right now I'm very optimistic.  For DOR, we did pretty well, got 13 eggs, 10 mature and 9 fertilized.  Our quality doesn't seem to be an issue since 6 of 9 made it to blast and were good/great quality.

QOTW: Normally, I do CrossFit and my diet is semi-paleo (I try to focus on low added sugar and low refined carbs).  But for IVF, I'm only allowed to walk, so I miss my CrossFit workouts and buddies at the gym.  My diet is ok right now, but the stress of IVF made it crappier than normal.  I'm trying to get back on track now, focusing on getting that little embie the best environment possible.  I'm sure generally being healthier can't hurt, so I'm doing what I can.

Good luck to everyone cycling!

TTC #1 7/10, Me (31)- Dx DOR (AMH 0.6); DH (30)- normal

IVF #1 (EPP) 13R/10M/9F, 5DT 1-4AA blast, beta #1-148, beta #2-322, 5 frosties!
3/18/13 - It's a Girl!
4/18/13 - A/S- baby looks perfect, but partial placenta previa

Hi! I would like to be added to this group checkin please :) We found out I have DOR with an AMH of .23 and FSH of 11.1 at the age of 27 a few weeks ago after I demanded our RE do those tests (thanks to the ladies of 3T & their knowledge) even though they pushed back saying I was fine because of my regular cycles and age.  Come to find out, I'm not.  After wasting 10 months of treatment without a DX, we moved on to another RE we can trust and will be starting our IVF process my first cycle in 2013. History in siggy.

Before we start our IVF process, I have been eating "clean" and working our 5 times a week. Once we start next year, I most likely will continue to eat clean but will drop working out except for some leisurely swimming/walking. We will see what the RE recommends at that time.

TTC since Nov 2010 | Me: 28, DH: 29 | SA & HSG Normal
IF Treatment started December 2011
Late DX DOR after 10 months of treatment | AMH-.23, FSH-11.1
Stag II Endo removed in July 2012
5 Rounds of Clomid(50-150mg), TI & IUI#1 = BFNs
3 Rounds of Femara(5mg) & Prog, TI, IUI#2, IUI#3 = BFNs
Supplements include DHEA, CoQL, L-Caratine, Vitamin C/D/B3, Fish Oil, and Prenatal
March IVF cycle canceled due to cyst
April IVF #1 - Lupron, Saizen, Menapur, Gonal-F, baby aspirin and dexamethasone | AFC 8 >> 9R, 4M, 2F w/ ICSI...looking to do PGS testing...Stopped dividing at day 3.
Retested AMH, dropped to undetectable at <.16.
Trying to decide what to do next...

Can I join? I've been a lurky-loo for the past few weeks so I thought it's time I made an intro.

A little about me: Me 38, DH 37. Dx: DOR and uterine fiboroids. Fibroids removed earlier this year. My cycle history since my m/c is in my siggy. I never did get AMH or FSH numbers of anything from my RE, I plan to ask for those next time I'm there.

Current status: This month IUI was cancelled due to poor response and we are working on getting an IVF protocol that will start at the end of this cycle (literally, waiting on the call from my RE's office as we speak). I am only just learning about IVF so I am hoping to call on you lovely ladies and your wisdom to help me navigate through it! My pre-IVF bloodwork came back fine, DH is doing his today but I don't anticipate any issues.

QOTW: I have been seeing a naturopah and was on a high protein, no carb diet and I have lost a few pounds which is cool but I'm modifying it a bit to add some whole grain carbs because the no carbs thing is really killing me. I don't eat meat so if I have to eat one more egg or peice of fish I think I'll gag. :-/

Baker: FX for a BFP for you!!

MJ and Boots - Welcome to the group, I am sorry you have to be here.

Status Update: I am so happy to announce that our embryo donor signed over the rights to us on December 7th. THEY ARE OURS! THEY ARE OFFICIALLY OURS! We are so excited and finally have hope again.

After our current RE refused to do the FET with these donor embryos, we found another RE(with even better FET SART rates, might I add) and we have an appointment with him tomorrow morning. I expect that I should get some cycle dates and some kind of a plan then. We should be able to initiate shipping of them from Virginia once the doctor here gives the go-ahead. I'm super anxious about that part! I would be devastated if something happened to them in transit. I'm taking it all one step at a time!

QOTW: I've dealt with IBS for about 13 years of my life which has gotten progressively worse in the past few years. It was becoming debilitating to my life. Recently, I questioned whether or not I might have a gluten intolerance and two weeks ago I decided to cut gluten out of my diet. I'm not sick anymore and it's caused me to lose weight! It's absolutely mindboggling to me. So I don't know if I'm officially celiacs or not, but without a doubt I have an allergy to it. Thats the diet I now follow. On a related noted, that leads me to ask a question. I've been reading that there might be a link between DOR and Celiacs disease. Has anyone ever heard of this or has celiacs disease and DOR? Just curious what you all know. :)

baker - FX for your beta on Monday! Sounds like this cycle went perfectly.

MJ & Boots - Welcome, so sorry you have to be here, but I think you'll find this group and these boards are a great support system.

Liz - WAHOO!!! This is awesome news! So happy for you, please keep us posted on when you may get to cycle with these!

Update: I am having my transfer tomorrow - eek! FX that everything goes well.

QOTW: I eat a pretty normal diet, some days or weeks I eat healthier than others. I was overweight by quite a bit at the beginning of this year but have lost 30 pounds since January and am now in a healthy range. I work out quite a bit now, but not as much as I did earlier this year, and I just worry about slipping back into my old habits. I hope I can continue to exercise if I do get pregnant, but obviously just not at a very high intensity.

Liz - I have heard a lot about celiac and infertility ties in general, but not specific to DOR. When I first started posting on this board years ago there was a woman who had celiac and eventually did get pregnant through IVF but I think hers was "unexplained infertility." I think it's awesome you're feeling so much better since cutting out gluten!

Hello ladies,

Best of luck to Baker - Monday will be here before you know it.  Can't wait to hear your news!

Welcome to the new girls!

UPDATE - This has felt like the longest two months ever! Since I got my period at the end of October, my clinic said it was too late to do IVF before next year! They don't do any between Thanksgiving and New Years. (I know I have complained about that before - so I hope I am not sounding like a broken record). Meanwhile - I have been trying to relax, enjoy not being on any sort of medication, and am doing accupunture. My period came a week late this month. I have never had a cycle longer than 28 days, and it is usually 25-26. So even though I knew in my head I wasn't pregnant, I still took 3 tests.  Why do I torture myself!!!  So it looks like I will start my next round the first week of January, and have the retrieval around Jan. 19th.  That still seems so far off! I just want to get going again.

Also, I have a phone consultation set up with an RE Dr. in California. He was recommended to me by a friend. In reading more about him, I saw that he was trained at Cornell.  So I am interested in his approach toward poor responders/DOR.  I still plan to do another cycle here in NC with my current RE. Especially b/c I already have two eggs on ice.  We'll see what I get in this next retrieval and then decide if we have enough to go ahead with fertization and transfer.

QOTW - I play a lot of tennis. I do Jazzercise and also lots of long walks with my dog. Now that it is colder, I probably won't play tennis until the weather is better. I actually tried a spin class this weekend. It was really fun, but really intense. Would love to do it on a regular basis - but woudn't do it while on an IVF cycle.

I have made some changes to my diet. Not huge, but just made a conscious effort to eat more fruits and veggies. Cut out nitrates (deli meat, sausage, hotdogs), eat organic meat, and organic dairy. Also added COq10 and Isotinol. Not sure if it helps or not.

Hope everyone has a great week!

darby - I hope your phone consult goes well!

We are transferring 2. We struggled with the one versus two decision but feel more comfortable going with 2. Hopefully it works!

Hello all,

We are currently in out 1 iui cycle... HSG test tomorrow, not looking forward to that one. That said good news: my AFC this cycle was 10! Bad news: I may have a family history of xrelated issues. Bah! Waiting on the genetics tests to come back...

QOTW: the extent of our exercise regime is mostly about walking our very energetic dog, so it's not too strenuous. As for diet: we have cut the aspartame and am taking basically every supplement for good ovarian function mentioned anywhere... But it's our first monitored cycle so....

Same sex couple - 31 years old - donor sperm, carrying our first due to dx of DOR/POF in Nov. 2012.

Low AMH, AFC - 6, Normal FSH, SS-A (RO) Antibodies (Autoimmune issues), tubes clear

IUI# 1 - December 19 - Done too early (24-36hrs before Ovulation) - BFN

IUI# 2 - January 16 - Femara + HCG trigger - BFN

IUI# 3 - March - 150-225iui Puregon, stimmed 16 days with only 1 follicle - nearly missed surge so no trigger - Progesterone - BFN.

IUI # 4 - "Pokey-Pokey" April 9 - 100mg Clomid CD 3-7, HCG Trigger + Progesterone - 2 follicles! IUI done after one O'd and before the 2nd one did. - BFN

...Moving on to trying to get my Partner pregnant with donor sperm. Hoping to come back and try with me, or do IVF with my DP's eggs eventually. My nerves are too frazzled for now

Hi everyone!

My IvF turned IUI was a BFN. I am now in the middle of one of two cycles while we wait to do IVF 1.2. I am feeling like these two months are a waste due to MFI but also really nervous about having a poor response again to stims... So we wait!

As far as diet I feel like I'm on the supercharged increase fertility/low AMH diet between the no caffeine, limited dairy, green juice, and mound of daily supplements! I literally started putting my supplements in a little bowl in the morning to make sure I got them all haha. Let's hope this works!

Good luck to everyone especially at this time of year which seems so brutal due to IF!

Me:30 low AMH; DH:30 MFI (count, motility, morphology) 2 rounds clomid 100 mg -BFN IUI#1- 25 mg clomid- July 2012= BFN! IUI #2 August = BFN! IUI #3 September = BFN! IVF #1 November - converted to IUI #4 due to poor response = BFN IVF #1.2 February- converted to IUI #5 due to poor response = BFN IVF #1.3 April- micro dose Lupron flare with HGH; 14R, 13M, 11F! Transfer of 1 day 5 blast on 4/30, 4 frosties. BFP! Beta #1 9dp5dt= 179; Beta #2 11dp5dt= 442. Stick baby stick!! *trying to keep hope* Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Welcom to the new girls!

Good luck to Baker and CeeMonkey!

Hugs to everyone who needs it.  The holidays are tough.

Update: We were hoping to cycle one last time this year but my day 3 fsh came in high and my clinic has some uncertainity due to a fire from last week.  I think there is enough red flags to hold off.  We have a consult at the beginning of the year with a clinic I previously cycled with.  We loved the Dr. and his staff and the only reason we left was because of the cost.  We only plan to do OE one more time so we want it to be drama free and have the feeling that we did everything we could and nothing went wrong due to lame care.

QOTW:  I'm terrible at exercising. I play golf once or twice a week in the summer and we always walk the nine holes.  Occassionaly we walk the 2.5mile trail at the local park.  This time of year I haven't really been getting any exercise.  No dieting, fortunately I'm pretty thin but I sure could use firming up.

baker- Good Luck Monday! Hope you can keep busy this weekend and it goes by fast!  I am glad to see you had such a great response!

MJ14323 and BootorHea- Welcome and sorry you had to join us : ( .. These girls are wonderful and are amazing support : )

liz4paws- Happy your embryo donor signed over rights and they are officially yours : )  Glad you found a new RE!!!  Why did your other RE refuse to do it with the donated embryos????

CeeMonkey- Good Luck on your transfer!

MsGmChick- Sorry to hear your IVF was a BFN.  Hugs!  GOod Luck with your appt with the new RE.

Update:  I started back up this month on Bravelle and IUI.  I have been taking 2 vials a night (150) and I went for an ultrasound and blood work this morning.  When I went in for the ultrasound they found 2 follicles measuring around 12 on each ovary soo a total of 4 follicles!!  This is the most I have ever had!!  Also my E2 was 253.    This was my first ultrasound and blood work this cycle.  I go back Friday!    The last cycle that I got pregnant (but m/c :*( ) I only had 2 good follicles on my first ultrasound appt with the E2 being 138.

Saturday is my 29th Birthday!  I seriously thought I would be pregnant with my second baby by now!  I hope this is my lucky cycle because it is my birthday this month!  lol!

QOTW:  I used to work out atleast 5 days a week.  I haven't done anything in the last 5 months since we have moved into our house.  I always worry if I work out it will hurt something which I know it probably would help more than anything!  I try to eat healthy but have been bad about that too!  I feel sooo fat right now. I am 20 pounds heavier than I want to be ; (

Thanks! It's because they were created prior to 2005 when a stupid FDA rule came about for embryo donation. The genetic father spent time in Europe in the 80s and according to the FDA, that's now a problem. The clinic I found was happy to do it if I sign a waiver, so I don't know why the other RE couldn't have done the same. But oh well, onwards and upwards. :)

Baker - FX for you!

CeeMonkey - Good Luck and FX!

Loveniz – Got testing back and it was normal, HSG showed Left Hydrosalpinx.

We met with the RE last week, he reviewed my HSG report / films and stated NO surgery at this time. All of our genetic testing was normal. He is giving us until Feb to try and get pregnant on our own, but if not pregnant by Feb we will move on to IUI or IVF.  I am still taking the COQ 10 and acupuncture weekly.

I am hoping for a Christmas miracle BFP, but I'm also realistic and very cautious at this point. My husband is a very postiive person, he told me the other night not worry...his famous last words.

Wanted to butt in and find out if anyone here (other than me) was a Fragile X pre-mutation carrier since it is so closely associated with DOR/POF?

The reason I ask, is that I came across this incredibly interesting research article dealing with the Fragile X pre-mutation and ovarian reserve and wanted to see if anyone had heard anything about this:

I was tested for Fragile X and it was negative, but yes, I've heard that there is a high correlation between it and DOR/POF patients. In my case mine is pretty much unexplained - no family history and no medical explanation really, other than I maybe just ran through my eggs faster than most people or had less to begin with.

I suggest you do get tested though, if not for anything else than peace of mind.

I already know I am a fragile X premutation carrier...and it is believed that is what caused my DOR.

The reason I was asking is because the research article/study that I linked to showed that having a "heterozygous high mutation" (which just means that a woman is a carrier but doesn't have full blown fragile x because then she would be homozygous) showed actually higher fertility rates at older ages than those of women without known infertility issues even though it has been well documented that being a FX premutation carrier is associated with subfertility (i.e. DOR/POF) at younger ages.  This research would suggest that somehow the abnormal number of repeats on our bad x causes issues with recruitment as opposed to a true low ovarian reserve...thus, the low amh/high fsh at young ages. However, the women in this study with the who were premutation carriers still showed fertility into their 40's.  In other words, the research in this article suggests that we just have subfertility our entire life because we have trouble recruiting eggs instead of truly "running" out of eggs at a young age...of course, it is just one study.  But this is the first time I have ever seen a research study like this and looking specifically at DOR/POF in Fragile X carriers.

I'm guessing I'm the only one around who is a Fragile X premuation carrier, though, because I have posted this on a couple of different boards and no one has responded.
