Talk to me about humidifiers

Which is better?  cold mist vs warm mist?  or should I go with a vaporizer?

We're getting this for our twin girl's nursery because they are picking up a cough at night along with some runny and stuffy noses.

I read in my Baby 411 book to get the warm...BUT when DH went to BBB they said they are not really used anymore. We are therefore using a cool mist with DD. We don't aim it at her, however because of the temperature of the mist...and it soaked her sheet the one night we did. Honestly, it seems counterintuitive to me. But that is what we're using.

Our pediatrician told us cool mist only so that's what we have always used. I just adjust it so that the room gets enough moisture without soaking everything around it.

Cool mist. Per consumer reports, "Avoid using warm-mist humidifiers, or vaporizers, in children's rooms. The hot steam can easily cause burns, and some of the surfaces might get hot."

I found that there were no reasonably priced humidifiers with really good reviews out there. There are some really cute ones (shaped like a frog or something), but they don't have the best reviews. I ended up with the Crane Drop Shape Cool Mist Humidifier, which also doesn't have the best reviews, but seemed to me like the best compromise between a sort-of reasonable price, decent product, and decent reviews.
