Plus sized Moms....

Did you doctor tell you you should lose weight/not gain during the pregnancy?  Last pregnancy I gained about 5 pounds total.  But I was wondering if anyone's doctors had mentioned this?  Also did you start exercising etc. during the pregnancy?

My Doc saidat the beginning that If I gained more than 25 he'd be worried. I dipped down 10 in the first tri (from throwing up) and I'm up 30 from there. so net gain: 20 and he says we're alright for now

My OB said I should gain 25 or less. I'm almost to my 25 marker, so we'll see... Tongue Tied I exercised a good bit during the first trimester and beginning of the second, but I've slacked off recently.

He said to try to keep it to a minimum...about 15. I gained 10 by 28 weeks then lost it all on the GD diet after being diagnosed. I'm back up about 4lbs now, at 37 weeks. Doc is happy, baby is healthy.

yep I was only supposed to gain 15 total, I hit 15 in my 6th month. But I have gained a little over 50 lbs total, snd I'm due in 10 days. I didn't exercise much but I ate healthier overall.

At my first appointment the doctor said he had a wait and see type of approach to weight gain for overweight and obese women. His suggestion was to not concentrate on trying to gain or lose a certain amount of pounds but eat more consciously. As long as I'm drinking more water than anything else and the baby is growing and developing normally, he said it doesn't matter how many pounds I gain. That being said, I lost 4 pounds in the first trimester and I have gained 12 pounds so I'm a net of +8.

My doctor didn't give me a number, but she was happy with me gaining 30 with DD. I was trying to keep it at that this time around too, but it will probably be 35-40...

I'm not exactly plus sized by US standards (I'm just in the high-average where I flux between a 10/12/14 depending on maker and what I've been eating) - but even with twins my OB said that she doesn't expect me to gain more than 25lbs this pregnancy. I've been losing weight steadily throughout the pregnancy - my total weight gain so far is only 8lbs from pre-pregnancy - and I have more than that just in baby weight, not including placenta & fluid. With only 7 weeks to go, I probably won't even hit that 25 increase before the boys are born. I've just changed my eating habits (GD diet) and tried to get at least 3-5hrs of walking in per week (often just walking around with a shopping cart at the store a couple of times a week).

Also, my doc basically said I sould gain a pound a week the last 20 weeks, so I guess she expected me to gain at least 20 pounds. She is more concerned that I have slow and steady weight gain.

I've gained 19 and doctor says I'm right on track. I am worried I'm going to pack on 10 more in this last four weeks though so I'm trying extra hard to stay away from sweets, which is really difficult for me!

My awesome OB, whom I adore, told me that "pregnancy isn't a time to worry about weight." I love him. :)

I was a little "fluffy" before getting pregnant too. My OB was worried that I'd only gained 2lbs after losing like 10 from morning sickness. She told me that as long as my LO was healthy the weight gain or loss is irrelevant, however, no matter how I feel about my body it definitely isn't the time to be purposely dieting.

I have actually eaten more junkfood recently, but in small quantities, than I ever have in life before. I still pretty much inhale veggies though, as well as taking my prenatal vitamins(when I remember =o)

My doctor wanted me to stay between 10-15lb gain total. I lost 20lbs in the 1st & 2nd tri (thanks "morning" sickness!)  and just gained it back so I'm "on track".. no idea how much I would have gained though if I hadn't lost weight first.

i know i am still early, but i lost 6lbs my 1st tri, and at my 16 wk checkup gained 2lbs, so i still have a net loss of 4lbs. My doctor said I am maintaining my weight, which is good, and that the majority of the weight will be gained during the 7th, 8th & 9th month. I do yoga for an hour, 5x a week, and have been grocery shopping and to the mall alot lately. Im kinda just eating what I want to eat (I buy pretty healthy things, and only go out to eat 1x a week).

i'm 5'6 and 185lbs.

My doctor said he preferred I not gain more than 10lbs. First trimester I lost 10 and have gained that back and 20 so I would say 20lbs from pre-pregnancy weight. I am not too worried. Baby alone is measuring at 5lbs, plus all the stuff that comes with here I don't think I have gained too much myself.

My OB never said a number to begin with. I lost 10 pounds right away and am close to my starting weight. At my last appointment my OB said he was concerned about my lack of weight gain..... which of course stressed me out especially with GD. But now I have decided to not stress about it and just try and eat what I can.

I was seeing an OB that specialized in maternal weight management until 28 weeks, she said she didn't want me to gain "a lot" I think she may have mentioned no more than 15lb. I've actually lost 13lb, and she's always been happy for me. I did start to walk on a regular basis, and eating LOTS better with my GD diet.

I was told to aim for 11 to 20lbs. I gained 10lbs before I even discovered I was KU, so I was completely incredulous. I hit 15lbs at 18wks, then the gain just stopped.

I'm now 31wks and have actually lost a couple pounds since then... didn't change anything, just don't have much appetite and I think some of the early gain was stress and eating crap b/c we were moving.

Baby is perfectly healthy, and I'm on track to gain about 18lbs total, so amazingly I should meet my goal!

I wasn't given any ranges/targets/etc... He said what matters is how I gain not what I gain. I had only gained about 4.5lbs and then at my 24 week appointment I had gained 10lbs in the last month. But it held steady 2 weeks later. Then we ended up switching OBs, getting diagnosed with GD, and having some other minor hiccups. So, I've lost about 8lbs of what I had gained. I actually was told that I lost more that we'd need to discuss it. We'll see how it goes next week b/c my scale at home says I've lost another 1.5-2lbs...

My doctor never said anything but the ultrasound tech at my 13 week heard me tell my friend I was annoyed that I'd gone up 10lbs.  (Water weight but whatever) and yelled at me about how I couldn't gain any more weight because I'm already fat.  Wench.

I ended up gaining 15 total for the pregnancy and my doc was fine with it.

Mine has mentioned a few times about the recommended amount of weight. I took a hit around thanksgiving and put on a bunch of lbs between appointments. I now have GD and they keep stressing it would be perfectly OK for me to lose some weight for the rest of the pregnancy. I am not exercising as I got off on the wrong foot with having moderate OHSS and I am a teacher and that is a workout in its own for me! lol Try not to stress too much and take it one step at a time. I have heard people say that sometimes larger women gain less because they are already big.... Im not sure if I agree with this or not. I do know that since I have gained close to the recommended amount for the entire pregnancy that they are being very strict with my GD and monitoring the baby. GL to you!

My OB told me no more than 11-15 lbs... He never told me to NOT gain at all. I think that's kind of an outrageous request IMO. And no I didn't start exercising but that was due to 1st and 2nd trimester complications and now I'm too big to really do anything but walk.
