Okay, if you want soft and chewy...try these.

http://www.marthastewart.com/344840/soft-and-chewy-chocolate-chip-cookies?czone=food/chocolate-center/chocolate-recipes&center=0&gallery=874571&slide=344840

Or these

http://kirbiecravings.com/2012/04/cornstarch-soft-chocolate-chip-cookies.html

I prefer the first one, just because I like them a little crispier around the edges and soft in the middle. The second one makes them so they're really soft, almost like the texture of those Lofthouse cookies.

ETA: Sorry they're not clicky, damn Chrome won't let me make them into links.

Whatever recipe you use, my secret is to add 1 or 2 tablespoons of maple syrup. It adds a little flavor but they also stay softer longer. I hate it when cookies get crunchy.

Do you use Choc chip cookies to announce a BFP where you are from too?  In my town that is the way you tellyour co-workers that you are expecting!

I am normaly a from scratch only baker...but ...this weekend I really wanted to use  my new bar pans AND Hy-Vee gave me .06 off gas if I bought cookie mix in a bag....so I used the choc chip and it CHANGED MY LIFE!!!  I am not sure if it was the mix or just that they were made in the bar ban and thick and chewy, but they were amazing!!!

To keep cookies soft put a piece of bread in the container you are using to store them. Works like a charm!

I recently made these for a school bake sale and they were a huge hit:

They're not plain chocolate chip but they are amazing.

I use the recipe on the Tollhouse chocolate chip bag but whatever quantity of butter it calls for I do 50% butter and 50% vegetable shortening. The cookies seem to be softer with that ratio.

Buy bag of Tollhouse chips. Flip over and read the back.

I add a little extra brown sugar. Soft cookies. You people are weird. Real cookies double as hockey pucks.

50/50 shortening to butter ratio (I use butter flavored crisco), secret ingredient is one packet of french vanilla pudding mix.  Always store the cookies with a piece of bread, keeps them soft.  Mine won awards, so listen up bish.

+1 with Buttmonkey (awesome SN, BTW).  Always use the pudding mix in cookie recipes!

I always add a tad bit of corn starch to my cookie recipes because it keeps them from getting super flat! I like mine thick and gooey! Okay, that did sound a little gross...also I use the crisco recipe that calls for the butter shortening sticks!

And then I underbake them by about a minute, let them cool for about 5 minutes, and enjoy. Now I want cookies.
