17 weeks and still sick

I'm currently expecting my second child. We're having a baby girl due May 18, 2013. I started having "morning sickness" 2 months ago and it still hasn't went away. I've been on bed rest for the past month because I'm not able to hold ANY solids down. I've lost 23 lbs and I am a complete wreck. I have taken every medicine OTC and prescribed by my OB to cure this sickness, but nothing is working. I was told it would go away by week 12 but I am still suffering. Any suggestions?

I am sorry you are dealing with this. My nausea did not go away until about 25 weeks with DS. Morning sickness only being during the first trimester is a total myth. I don't have any suggestions, but I do feel for you! :(

whoever told you it would go away by week 12 is a sack of sht and u should punch them! LOL I was told at 7 weeks while pretty much dying in bed from hunger that "oh by 12 weeks, it will all get better" -- ya i didn't feel better until 18 weeks. It sucks!!

Some ppl just have bad sickness throughout their entire pregnancy. If your OB has Rx'd you meds and you've tried everything,  not sure what else we can tell you.

Has your doctor mentioned Hyperemesis Gravidarum?  If you can't keep down solids to the point you're on bedrest and have lost 23 pounds, I'd say it's a fair bet you're being affected by HG.  If that is, indeed the case (and please consult your doctor before accepting this explanation) you could be affected for the rest of your pregnancy.

I have hyperemesis. Has your dr recommended IV fluids, prescription meds, ect? I am still sick but now at 20 weeks feel way better (I have hyperemesis, week 17 sucked!!!) but my dr. Got on it right away, with meds, IV ect. I think I feel so much better and actually gained a little weight bc my dr. Was knowledgeable about it and treated it immediately. I am still throwing up, but not nearly as much you poor thing!!! I am sorry your so sick! My dr. Said when you have hg, you usually either feel better around 20 weeks (but still a little vomiting/ yucky feeling) or you haven't bad the whole time, and that treatment is super important. I hope you feel better soon! Jolly rancher pupscicles were one of the few things I could keep down, ginger ale was ok...good luck!

That is awful! I was affected by morning sickness with my first until close to 23 weeks. It actually got worse in the 2nd trimester. I hope you find some answers. Isn't there some sort of medicine pump you can get to make sure the medicine is getting in your system and staying? I am a little rusty since it's been 3 years, but I thought I remember people talking about it on here. Just a thought to ask your dr. I hope you feel better!! I hated it when people said this to me but it's true- it will eventually go away- even if it means delivery. GL!

Thank you soooo much for the reply! I was hospitalized last week for 3 days. I was getting meds and IV fluids, but the funny thing is I felt worse when I left than I did before I went. I am praying this goes away. I am currently juggling between Reglanwhich isn't working at all, and Phenergan. They are both suppose to relieve the nauseous feeling. I have heard of the pump, but it's Zofran, and that gives me a MAJOR headache. So I am in a losing battle with this baby girl. I pray I get better as the days go by. :

Yes, I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis last week and spent a couple of nights in the hospital for treatment. That didn't work...I am still experiencing horrible spells where I can't keep anything down even water. I just pray my condition gets better because I don't think I can deal with this for another 22 weeks. :

I am so sorry to hear that. I have been sick pretty much my whole pregnancy, but not as bad as you have it. I thought it was getting better last week, when i didn't get sick for 5 days, but now I have been getting sick every other morning. I do have zofran, but I don't have a refill. I am going to the doctor next week, and I am going to ask for more.

I literally just got sick in the trash can at my work bathroom. Thank goodness there is only three of us in the office, so it's not to bad. I almost wish I was on bedrest, because it's hard to concentrate or do anything after you have thrown up.

I have been told to use the seabands(wristbands), but have not done it yet. I am due May 13th, or May 14th. It seems so far away though. I hope you feel better soon!

Just wanted to add that I feel for you.  I don't have it as bad, but I have been sick almost every day.  This pg is different than my first tho - with DS I would throw up & then feel pretty good.  This time it's an overall general nausea that comes & goes throughout the day, and gets worse right before bed.  If I don't eat it's really bad..  and the thought of food makes me want to puke - I don't have a 'taste' for anything.  =(

Hang in there - it will get better.  At least you're working with your Dr.

I am still sick too and I am almost 17 weeks. I have lost some weight too. Its really hard to feel so crappy all the time. I get relief from getting lots of sleep, gravel (yes it is safe to take, the ginger gravel is really good b/c you can suck on it and it absorbs right away and then if you do get sick again the gravel will take effect and you can get some food down), real gingerale, real ginger candies, there is a candy called preggie pops that help too, and if you can hold solids try things like smoothies shakes, anything you can get down even if its just ice cream and chips whatever the case may be some food and liquids is better than nothing. My mom was sick with me until the 6th month, I totally feel bad for her now knowing how she felt for that long.

I am so sorry to hear that this is happening to you.  I too was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum and lost significant weight this pregnancy (2 emerg. visits for IV fluids etc.)  I am 15 weeks along now and am starting to feel better after 6  weeks off work and taking 6 Diclectin and 1-2 8mg. Zofran a day.  At first my body couldn't handle the Zofran well (major constipation and dizziness) but it eventually adjusted itself.  This is my second pregnancy and although I wasn't this sick the first time, it wasn't until the 5-6 month mark that I started to feel better and I was still needing Diclectin until the day I delivered.  Hopefully the doctors will find an alternative for you that works.  Is this your first pregnancy?

One thing I can suggest is to consider calling the Mother Risk Nausea and Vomiting Helpline at 1-800-436-8477.  I believe that they take international calls and even if they can't help you medically, they are great moral support as being so sick can lead to anxiety and depression.  The number is toll free but they only answer phones M-F during the day.  They are very professional and will take a list of important details before offering advice as they create a personal file for you.  They also have a website with a forum for asking questions and getting support.

I don't know if they can help, but I know how desperate I was getting and I was willing to try just about anything that could help me and my baby as I already decided that this baby had to survive because I wasn't doing this again.

I wish you luck and my heart goes out to you! Prayers for you and your baby girl!
