Car Seat Cover?

At first I wasn't going to get one, I was planning on throwing a blanket over LO, (really trying not to go overboard and get unnecessary stuff) but I live in OH and winters can get pretty nasty so it seems like a good idea. I know the Bundleme is now considered unsafe.. which carseat covers does everyone like the best??

I was also looking at shopping cart covers - wasn't planning on getting one of those either, until I went shopping the other day and someone's kid was literally gnawing on the side of the cart.....ick! Recommendations please! Ha

With car seat covers you want one that goes on like a shower cap. So it will stretch around the outside of the car seat. I am pretty sure JJ Cole makes one just like this.

As for the shopping cart cover I just made my own. They had a cute kit at Joann's and had at it. It's super cute.

JJ Cole's shower cap style cover is actually cheaper than the bundle me (in addition to being safer):

This is the shopping cart cover we chose - inexpensive and also can be used on restaurant high chairs:

Not baby tested yet, but both were recommended to me by moms who have used them!

I got the Jolly Jumper Arctic car seat cover. It's a little pricier than some of the others, but it includes an attached fleece blanket and it really seemed like the warmest one to me. There's also a basic Jolly Jumper that's less expensive. Just search jolly jumper car seat cover on amazon and both options will come up--they have great reviews!

We were just told by the fire dept that even the shower cap style ones will void your car seat warranty now. I had one in the seat and they made me remove it.

Target has a First years carseat cover for $13, its very nice.

I'm not sure I'm getting a cart cover, but really it is something that can wait.  You can't put them in the cart seat anyway until they are sitting up on their own or out of the infant seat.

who cares about the warranty?  Let's see you put keep a blanket over the baby when you're walking with it in the wind and cold.  Or keep it clean and off the floor when you go a restaurant or something.  I think this is just getting ridiculous.  I used the bundleme DS and this time I got the shower cap style.

I made one of these... Cost me 86 cents for a box of velcro from Wal-Mart cause I already had the fabric and coordinating thread:

http://just-because-i-am-me.blogspot.com/2010/02/car-seat-canopy-tutorial.html

Shouldn't void the warranty, the fabric doesn't interfere with the handles, and I won't have to worry about it falling on the floor, but it can easily be flipped up in the car or at restaurant to see baby.  I made it out of fleece fabric so it was a little heavier for winter. I'll probably make a lighter one for spring/summer. I used leftover fabric to make some little car-seat-sized fleece blankets to tuck over the baby too once he/she is strapped in.

Any shower cap style cover is fine. I think we got ours at Walmart for less than 20.

That doesn't make sense. They don't interfere with the carseat straps, and they don't change anything about how the seat itself works.

We bought the shower cap style one, it was recommended at our car seat class which is done by the government here in Canada.

My thoughts exactly, there's absolutely nothing about a shower cap cover that would cause issues.

Yes, and if you had one IN the seat then it wasn't a shower cap style -- they go over the top, after the baby is strapped in, so they can't interfere with safety.

I got the Jolly Jumper cover (shower-cap style) and it works great and was a good price.  I also got the shopping cart cover... don't bother.  It was a pain to set up with one hand, and I always put my babes in the front pack for shopping.  So nice to have them close and warm.  Yes, LO did get their mouth on the cart a few times once they were big enough to sit in there... But, really it was something I could easily watch for and offer them a cracker instead or their soo.

I agree with this.  An educated person can understand why the type that go under the straps would not be safe.  But the shower cap style clearly do not interfere with anything.  We got a cheap First Years one from Amazon for like $13.  I had a nice JJ Cole one from DS but it was blue and I wanted a pink one to designate "girl".  It will do the job - which is to keep the wind from hitting her when it's freezing out.

I also got the one from walmart.  I didn't have it with my first and decided to for my second and it was the best money spent.  The wind is bad here in Mo where we live and the blanket was just so hard to keep him covered with.  This time its already on the carseat all ready for baby when she gets here in a few weeks :)
