"back" labor?

So, I've been having really terrible back pain since last night. It used to only do it when I was laying down and now it's just coming in waves. Its also accompanied by my belly getting really, really tight. I'm drinking water, but the only thing that makes it ease up is getting on all fours. I can't even walk around to get it to go away. Never felt pain like this so it makes me think it might be contractions...haha.

Do you guys think this could be early labor? I'm 38 weeks tomorrow and I'm about to start timing them as I type this.  I have a doctors appointment at 3, so hopefully they'll tell me more.

 Just wanted some opinions :)

I had back labor and it was AWFUL! I couldn't sit down, only think that helped was to bounce on my ball or walk around.

I never felt a thing in my stomach, all in my lower back.

Thankfully you have an appt so they can monitor you. Back labor is really hard to describe. My ob didn't think I was in labor when I called, I waited a few hours and it just got worse, then I started to have blood when I went to the bathroom and I knew it was labor.

This is very true! I've texted my mom just to see what she thinks, being has how she has had two babies to my zero (haha) and I just can't describe how it feels. It's like something is pushing on my back from the inside. Makes my toes curl up!

I'm timing them and it lasts about 3 minutes but there's around 7 minutes separating them so I think I'll be alright for a little while. I just hate that my appointment isn't until three! Gonna take a shower and see what happens from there.

It sounds like real contractions, if they keep coming stronger & faster then it's likely the beginning of labor. Did they give you a 5-1-1 rule to follow? If so and your contractions start following that rule call them before your appointment, if not best of luck today!

I had back labor. Id just go to L&D and get checked out or call your ob and ask. I was on morphine and it didn't help the pain when I was in active labor, but like you said I ended up walking around on all fours.

yep, that's what I've been waiting for! I'm about to start timing them again since I've taken a shower. We are ready for baby, believe me.

And thanks! I feel like I might need it! aha :)

The doctor will know best when he checks you. I had the same thing for 3 days straight and thought this was it but last night it stopped and when I went to my OB today he said I am only a fingertip dialated. With my last two pregnancies I was at 3 cm by 37 weeks. Every pregnancy is different. Good luck :)

Is your baby posterior (sunny side up)??...if so, this exact thing happened to me last weekend. I couldnt even believe the pain in my right side of my back...so bad I could barely tell my stomach was cramping. I timed them to be about 9-12 minutes long but they only happened every 30 min for a few hours...I ended up going into L&D just to be monitored...turns out it was just braxton hicks/back labor but it was because of her position....check out www.spinningbabies.com for some suggestions of how to help your LO turn...sunny side up babies have higher rates of resulting in c-sections etc so I am doing all I can to turn her :)

Good luck!

We have no idea! We're actually going in today for an ultrasound to determine positioning so I guess we'll find out! But the pain is pretty ridiculous. It lasts about 3 minutes and then there's like 7 minutes in between. Can't even sleep through them, which has really sucked.

A week ago, I was only one centimeter. My husband said I'm going to be really pissed if I get up there and the OB tells me I'm only at 2 haha! This will be day two of the back pain. I just want to know what baby is up to in there!
