Cayden

I really like the name Cayden for a boy. I love that it's a real name with real spelling that has some history, not just some made up name. I hate that it rhymes with such a popular name of Aiden and all of the other names that people have been coming up with the same ending. Should I still consider using it despite the rhyming popularity?

Our other top name choice is Noah, which is a very popular name now as well. Oh and the middle name will be Robert after bf or David after my dad if that makes a difference.

I don't really think popularity should make me not choose a name, but now I am second guessing my stance.

Aiden is not a made up name. Cayden is variant of Caden.  I honestly don't think there is tons of history behind Caden.

From behindthename.com "Sometimes explained as a derivative of the Irish surname Caden, which is a reduced form of the Gaelic surname Mac Cadáin meaning "son of Cadán"."

Personally, Cayden or Caden are just not my style.  It follows the very popular trend and appears made up.  I personally prefer Noah over Cayden.

I think Cayden is awful. I'm sorry, but that's my opinion.

However, Noah is a lovely name and one that would be on my list for a future DS if we didn't already have 2 in my family.

Noah Robert and Noah David are both beautiful.

Ick. Please don't use Cayden. Your poor kid will be one of 20 Cayden, Caden, Kaden, Kaiden, etc in his class.

Noah is fine.

I forsee many many Cayden/Cadens in your preschool class...but its up to you! Popularity doesn't have to factor in to your choosing a name. I look for less popular names because my DH and I (and now DD) have names that dont break the top 200.

I prefer the name Noah but i vote for the spelling: Caden vs. Cayden if you use it.

I'm not a fan of Cayden. Also, I don't think that it's a real name with real spelling that has some history. It's a modern invented name.

I think that Noah David is a great name! :)

Aidan (this spelling, anyway) is not made up.  It's an Irish saint's  name and it's centuries old.  I have always assumed Cayden was made up.  In any case, no matter what -ayden name you use, I guarantee your son's name will rhyme with at least one of his classmates' names.  Noah is a classic name that will not sound dated in a few decades despite its current popularity.  I would definitely choose that over any -aden name and especially over Cayden.

There are some names that I would ignore popularity for, such as, Jacob and Noah. They are solid classic boy names. I wouldn't ignore the fact that Cayden will rhyme with a bunch of Jaydens, Aidens, ect.

Noah wins by a landslide for me.

I also assumed Cayden/Caden was made up (just like Jayden/Brayden etc etc)

That being said, DH and I decided on the name Aiden for a boy before we started TTC and before we knew we were having a girl, we talked about other boys names but we still love Aiden.  Popularity doesn't bother us, our daughter's name is insanely popular.  Name him what you love, but be prepared for there to be a zillion other -dens in his age group.

I think Cayden sounds too feminine, and it's far too trendy for my taste. I like Noah a lot!

I vote Noah. It might be popular but it is also a classic. It won't got out of style or seem dated, like Cayden probably will.

The Caden, Aiden, Jayden, Hayvin, and Hayden and all in between spellings, names need to be done and over with IMO. Too many classrooms are going to be overrun with these names. Teachers are going to call the kids by their last names.

I love Noah though.

I like Noah better.  Both are popular right now as people have said.  If you like a popular name, I'd go for one that is classical than one is trendy.  Think of the names that are "so 80s".

Cayden is bad.  I completely lump it in with Jayden, Braden etc as trendy and probably made up.

Noah is a great name and would work with Robert or David in the MN spot.
